Me gustan los dramones, la gente que me conoce lo sabe, sobre todo este tipo de dramas, en Goodreads tiene la etiqueta "Muerte", lo vi y salte a pedírsela a la editorial. El libro me sorprendió de una trágica manera, cuando terminé de leerlo pensé "¿Y ahora como lo reseño sin entrar en spoilers?"

Este es uno de esos libros donde vas con una idea clara, o sinopsis engañosas, o tan bien hechas que luego te destruyen el corazón, además con la portada pensé que era solo un libro dramático simplecito, que me haría derramar una lágrima y luego quedaría como un buen recuerdo. Laura Weiss te va dando la historia de una manera tan sutil, hasta el punto en el cual llegas a pensar que todo ya está dicho, te da tranquilidad lectora, pero luego reírse malvadamente y quitarte todas las esperanzas de que este mundo es bueno y justo. Okay, quizá estoy siendo demasiado dramática, es solo que el libro lo merece.

Los personajes están bien construidos, hay detalles de los cuales Rowan nos hace notar de la gente a su alrededor, de como se comportan, que en el personal habría pasado por alto, que te hacen pensar en la manera de comportarse de las personas a tu alrededor. Me gustó también que los personajes secundarios no estuvieron todo el tiempo pendiente de la protagonista, es que ¿qué haces cuando ya no puedes hacer nada más? Puede ser... No, tacha eso, algunas de las acciones de las personas alrededor de Rowan fueron crueles, solo que a veces, debes seguir con tu vida, de la forma en la que decidas, a veces también sin importar qué o quién dejas atrás. Lo hemos hecho, al menos yo lo he hecho, dejar a personas que en lugar de hacerme sentir mejor, me hacían sentir mal, a veces puede llamarse cobarde, pero también puede llamarse supervivencia.

Me Since You es un libro que me ha tocado mucho la fibra sensible, no se que haría si estuviera en el lugar de Rowan, aunque lo que más me afectó fue el hecho de que estuve y estoy (a veces, peleo mucho con eso) en lo que desencadena todo la historia.

Me Since You was a difficult book to read. Not because of the writing (it was gorgeous) or because I had issues with the characters or the plot (I didn't, they were both perfection), but because of the subject matter. I knew enough about this book going in that I knew it was going to be this way, but I still hadn't fully prepared myself for what all it would entail, all the emotions it would bring out in me. The feelings were all real. I could feel the pain, guilt and loss Rowan was experiencing. I shed many a tear over this book. It was gut-wrenching at times. 

The romance in this story takes back burner to the other things going on, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Rowan was dealing with a lot and she was the type of person who had to do it for herself, by herself, on her own terms. Eli made himself available, but, no stranger to loss himself, backed off and let her come to him. It was a mature and respectable thing to do. Both Rowan and Eli were special and good. Completely relatable, realistic and likable. They were well-developed and complex. Rowan's journey in this book was incredible. Her feelings were so raw, her grief and guilt so tangible, her need to put her family back together so real. She was an incredibly strong girl. Her journal entries about killed me. 

If you're looking for an upbeat book, this isn't the one for you. But if you're looking for real emotion and aren't afraid to get wrapped up in a character's feelings, don't pass this one by. It was absolutely beautiful. Devastating and heartbreaking, but hope shined through in the end. This book gutted me, but in the best way possible. I'm an emotional reader and I tend to connect to characters like I do with real people in the world outside of books, so when one is feeling pain, I feel it too. This book definitely brought out all the feels. It took me from being apprehensive about what would happen through the stages of grief myself (and a lot of tears) and left me with a hopeful and peaceful, satisfied smile at the end.

Me Since You starts off with the “before” Rowan. We get to see Rowan living as a typical teenager would, dealing with normal everyday teenage stress. Friends, family, homework… the usual. Then, because of choices people made, they end up at the wrong place at the wrong time… and this will forever change their lives.

This book just gets more and more devastating as it continues. One bad event leads to another, then another. I have to give Laura Wiess A LOT of credit though. There are several difficult topics, and she wasn’t scared to really show them in their most unfavorable light. It’s harsh and will tear your heart out, but it’s real. Very real.

Me Since You really opened my eyes to many things. First of all, mental illness. Unless you’ve ever suffered or known someone first-hand that has, it’s hard to really see into the details of what mental illnesses can do to a person. This was eye-opening for me. Also the grieving process after a tragic event, such as a suicide, and how it can differ from person to person. Not all people grieve the same, and because of this it seems society may be tough for some grieving people to handle. I was shocked at how cruel and unfair some of the characters were in this story. It definitely was a much sadder story than I thought it would be. 

I really think this is a story to read, and I hope the sadness factor doesn’t scare many readers away. Yes, it’s sad… but it’s definitely worth it. It’s a moving story that really touched my heart. I finished this book days ago, and I’m still finding myself thinking about it often. It really left an impact on me.
