the most heart-warming romcom you'll read this year

I loved this! I didn't know I needed a romance between lawyers until now especially when one lawyer use to be a child tv star! I enjoyed the couple's chemistry and the family dynamics, especially between Emme and Kailyn. I would literally pay for like an epilogue book with just Dax, Kailyn, and Emme being all domestic and being together as a family!!!!

First I genuinely loved the plot of this and I think I'd love it as a movie but there were a few things that didn't sit right writing wise. I just didn't really vibe with the characters and while the dialogue itself was fine a lot of the internal monologue dialogue kinda annoyed me. Don't get me wrong, I love a sex scene in a book but for me there were just too many and they really detracted from the plot unfortunately. But I was invested enough in the story to finish it so I guess that's something. I listened to it on audiobook which was good as there were two different narrators for the two different perspectives which made it easy to follow.

This was an okay book. I liked Daxton and Kailey was a strong, solid character.
This was more somber, serious, than Helena’s usual stuff I feel. I also felt like it was lacking a bit of life, something to spice it up a little.
Overall, it was a solid book but I don’t feel like it added something new to me, sorry.

The name definitely says it all, although maybe meet *cringe* might be more accurate. Lol.


I felt for every character, even if that feeling is absolute disgust (I'm looking at you (view spoiler)[Linda. I mean, ugh. Girl!<\spoiler>. Emme was such a sweetheart who didn't deserve half of what life threw at her, and yet she didn't let it break her spirit. Kailyn and Dax 😍 and their extremely complicated relationship and history made the final moments of the book that much better.

You should all pick this one up because despite all the ups and downs that these characters face you can't help but smile at just how cute they are together. Plus, it's a quick read, what more can you ask for in a novel? (hide spoiler)]

I'm literally like, 40 pages in and.. what? Is this a wattpad book? It's so expositional and surface level. Neither main character has a distinct personality. It's all tell, no show.

Don't know if I'll make it through this one, guys. I'll keep at it for a bit, because I do love the enemies to lovers trope, but man...

This wasn't my ultra favourite but it was fun. It was a bit more about telling me stuff than showing when it came to the romance so I didn't become wholly invested and it was predictable but both of those are minor grumbles. It made me smile and it was an easy enough read to unwind with after work.

Dax's aunt is suing for custody of Emme, but when Kailyn Flowers is assigned as custodian of Emme's trust, she becomes more than just a professional presence in both of their lives.  However, Kailyn and Dax have a rocky past based on a grudge from college and Kailyn's crush on Dax from her childhood when he was a television star and she was a devoted fan.  Kailyn isn't sure she can overcome her past feelings to become a stable person in Dax's and Emme's lives.

The strength of Meet Cute is the relationship between Kailyn and Dax's daughter, Emme.  Kailyn and Dax are both problematic characters with Kailyn's initially immature feelings about Dax and his early objectifying of her that does not come across as romantic in any way.  As a villain, Dax's aunt is very one dimensional, leaving the conclusion fairly flat.  However, even with all of these problems, the story is a very quick read that frequently put a smile on my face.  Overall, Meet Cute provides some enjoyment even though the story is plagued with plot holes and lackluster moments.

This book is kind of cute, but I feel like that's all it has going for it.

The premise is that Kailyn, major fangirl, reconnects with former teen heartthrob Dax 5 years after the two of them graduated from law school on bad terms. Simple enough, right? EXCEPT Dax's world is rocked when he becomes legal guardian of his 13-year-old sister Emme and Kailyn, as a lawyer, is caught up in the custody battle between Dax and Linda, his and Emme's aunt.

Let's talk about Kailyn, shall we? She is such a wildly inconsistent character. She is a major fangirl, as established during the opening "meet cute" scene, and she freaks out about memorabilia from Dax's TV show all the time. But then she's also some kind of sex bomb, and super professional cool girl? I'm not saying people can't be multifaceted, but every time her fangirl side came out, it was really jarring compared to her character the rest of the time. A character should seem like they're the same person all the time, even when showing different sides of themselves, and Fangirl Kailyn was literally a different person than Regular Kailyn, and the fangirl version was also super unlikable.

Dax was fine, if a bit boring. There were some interesting parts where he was working through some of the trauma of losing his parents, but a lot of that was overshadowed by his inability to think with anything north of his belly button.

Also the sex was boring. I'm sure that's completely subjective since everyone has different tastes, but those scenes were short and not interesting at all. I'm pretty sure more page time was devoted to Kailyn and Dax making our than them actually getting down to business.

All of that might have left it at three stars. Not wonderful or memorable, but not awful aspects of a book either. But then there was the villain, the eeeeeeevil Aunt Linda who is trying to take custody of Emme away from Dax. She was a laughably bad villain. Some of the things she did were so outside the realm of what a reasonable person would do, I had to laugh out loud. (view spoiler)[She literally planted alcohol in Emme's locker during a school dance to make Dax look like he wasn't suitable to be her guardian. When she works at this school and would definitely be caught. Also.........no one ever thought to just. Look at the camera footage in front of Emme's locker? I used to work in a school. I know they have cameras all over the hallways. (hide spoiler)] She was like a cheesy Disney villain. The other characters felt like real people, for the most part. But as soon as Aunt Linda stepped on the page, you could tell she was scheming some bad ish. There was no subtlety, and therefore no tension because OF COURSE this crazy, mustache twirling, obvious bad guy is not going to get custody of this vulnerable teenager!

I just like my villains to have a bit of nuance, I guess. If you like more sweet, kind of sappy, romances, then I think you will like this. I just like a bit more tension and realism in my stories, I guess.

Helena Hunting has wrote a romantic story, Meet CUTE, and I just looove it. It is so cutest romance story that everyone got to read. It can be read as standone. You will not regret it at all.
Meet Cute starts off with Kailyn Flowers and Daxton reuniting again. They have previously meet before when they were in school. It was kinda embarrassing for Kalyn during those times since she has a major crush on Daxton. Daxton was known for his acting skills since he was a child star but gave it up later on to pursue his career. It was not a fun time for either of them. Kailyn and Daxton reuniting again was unexpected and not welcome at all at least to Kailyn part. Daxton does not know what is Kailyn problem until later on.
Something tragic happens that through them to the loop. Daxton parents pass away and Daxton will be raising her younger sister up. It is going to be a challenging time for Daxton because he has no clue what to do but he is willing too. But he will face some problems since family are ready to pounce on him about raising his younger sister which will bring Kailyn in. Kailyn was the one who wrote Daxton younger sister trust fund that she will have to monitor the whole family until it is settle who would take care of who. 
Kailyn is back in Daxton which she does not want too at all but Daxton all for it. He knows there are chemistry between each other that he wants to know what is her problem with him. They will face the problem between them but it will address some problems about each other. They have a lot of things pulling them part. But they have to be with each other. They have some love with each other that you are rooting for them to fix it because we know in our hearts that they are meant for each other no matter what. They have too. It take some time but they will be.
Meet Cute will bring two friends closer than ever in unexpected way before. Five stars.

Not a new favourite but an enjoyable read, and really enjoyed the storyline surrounding the sister, it was nice to read a romance about becoming a blended family unit (which is not something I’ve read much of). Dax wasn’t my favourite male lead, because even once the book ended I didn’t feel as though I knew him very well, so much so that I might have preferred it to be only from Kailyn’s perspective.

I picked this book up because it’s super cute cover. I thought it was going to be a rom-com. Yes, this book did have it’s funny/cute moments. It didn’t lack in that department. This book was a very family based book. Meet Cute follows Kailyn who becomes moderator of Daxton’s younger sister’s trust fund.

Dax is Kailyn’s teenage crush. He starred in a popular TV show when he was a teenager and she fangirled over him so hard. They went to college together and had feuds. One so big, that Kailyn holds the grudge for years. That is, until she has to be around his younger sister more than she plans to be. Dax is thrown into the parenting position with no idea what to do.

Kailyn helps them out every which way she can. I love her for that. Not only was Dax thrown into this situation, she was too thanks to her job. She really steps up and helps Dax out in situations where he’s not comfortable with.

This book was cute. This book was sad. It made me feel a lot of emotions. I feel like I would have loved it more if it was a rom-com. I wasn’t expecting all of this heaviness. I was expecting a fun lighthearted read. I didn’t really get that. I got thrown into family drama and custody fights. It’s not a topic a feel light about.

As much as I enjoyed this book, I’m giving a 3.75 star rating. This is just simply due to the fact that I was mislead by this super cute cover. If it had more sexy scenes, it would have gotten a higher rating! (I did highly enjoy what we were given though)
