To be honest. I’m a bit upset cause I thought I knew what was going to happen but NOOOOO the DCOM is completely different! Also I’m so mad that her name was actually different because as soon as I started listening to this I was like wait I thought her name was Ally and then I convinced myself I was crazy but they did actually change it. And I was waiting for the teacher to be the bad guy..man I just...idk my thoughts 😂

This New York Times bestselling hit from Meg Cabot mixes the wit of the Princess Diaries with a supernatural twist on the Arthurian legend. Ellie’s thrilled to meet Will, the star football player whose popularity at her new school is almost legendary. Yet as she gets to know Will better, Ellie starts to uncover some strange things about him. And the school. And even herself. Ellie doesn’t think much of déjà vu, but she just can’t shake the haunting feeling that, somehow, this has all happened before… A long-ago legend comes to new life in this tale of a love triangle, a medieval sword, and a totally awesome pool raft in this stand-alone novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Princess Diaries.

Let me first say that my love for the Disney movie is what made me want to read the book. Also, I knew the book was different and I was totally okay with that. If you've read any of my reviews about adaptations before, you'll know I typically view each thing on its own rather than hating one for being so unlike the other.

I like how this was a little darker than I had expected. By that I mean there's some SERIOUS family drama and I quite like what it brought to the story.

The characters were fine, though I felt some of the secondary characters could have been a little more developed. Also, this book is a true product of its time and there's basically zero diversity other than a group of people who were clearly put in because Cabot wanted her character to denounce racists. Which isn't bad, but would be considered not "good enough" for today's standards.

I liked the plot, everything came together nicely by the end and it was honestly just a super fun journey. I really enjoyed this book, I'm glad I read it!

Between this and The Princess Diaries I definitely know I want to be reading more of Cabot's backlog in the future!

This may literally have been the worst book I've ever read. Maybe I'm too "A" for this YA...

Hm. Very predictable. Clearly the author's target audience are 13 year old love deprived girls that fantasise about being 'special', 'heroic' and valiantly self sacrificial.
