The Red Zone

Arrogant. Insufferable. Maddening. Downright repulsive. According to Mae Garten, those were a few of the choice words she’d use to describe her long-standing sparing partner, October Calhoun. For her, the only thing worse than him dropping back into her life after seven years was him showing up at her home and asking—scratch that—begging for a place to live. Sure, she had a newly vacant pool house in her backyard she could offer him, but was doing so really worth losing her sanity over? With tensions between the two of them as high as ever, it was only right to relieve some of their pent up energy between the sheets. People always said there’s a thin line between love and hate. It was only a matter of time before Mae and October found out how thin that line really was.

This was such a cute, quick read! I love the banter of October and Mae the most. Then the knowing looks everyone had around them. Then their FWB relationship. What I liked most was that there wasn’t a third act breakup like you usually see with these specific tropes in a book. That was nice.

I do think there were some plot holes in the book that I would have like more and they were all character based and not really about their relationship.

I also gotta say that the second graders in this book ante freakin ruthless and I understand how much that can affect a little girl. I think the make up of it was good. It was a tough part of her life and until she got that out it would bother her because it was really messed up thing to have said about you. I really wish the epilogues for both of these books didn’t include everyone especially when we haven’t gotten everyone’s story yet but I try my best to looks past that part and enjoy October and Mae’s relationship. I think I do enjoy the first one more but they are both a nice quick read for anyone!

“You’re mine. Do you understand that?”

Yes sir 🫡

I managed to open my eyes just enough to see him bending down in front of me before wiping a warm rag over my face. After wiping my left cheek, he gave it a quick kiss before doing the same on the other side.

“You’re so beautiful,” October whispered against my lips before pressing them against mine.

“….the endless cloud of fluffy pillows. Oh, how I missed my pillows right now. Why did all men sleep with so few pillows? It should be a crime.”

It should be indeed

“Your favorite color is blue. Light blue to be specific. And you don’t drink coffee, you drink tea. Ginger tea twice in the morning and chamomile once at night. If neither of those are available then you’ll settle for green.”
