This is still a good book but it struggles in ways that are not present in the first two of the series. The good first though; Morrison is still able to balance expectation versus surprise is a wonderful way. She always does the right move rather than the easy move in her writing. Tyme remains a lush and truly deep world with everything that builds on the last books. The additional history of Yellow, the Olive Isles and Pink Empire is as intriguing as all glimpses of the Tyme history we get. However, this book does suffer with how long it takes to actually get started. The book feels like it really starts around page 200 which is too late. The mechanics of the curse on Prince Syrah are also frustrating. Overall, I think it caused me to be less invested in Syrah and others than the other protagonists in the series. It was a shame that much of the emotion that I felt were for Rapunzel and Jack who are only meant to be cameos. I still liked the characters here but I didn’t connect with them like the first two books.
