Shirazeh Houshiary
This monograph on the work of Iranian artist Shirazeh Houshiary contains full-page illustrations of her most recent paintings, sculptures and film-based works. Executed on either black or white monochromatic canvas each one of the delicate markings represent a word, the meaning of which remains unknown. The theme of the films places itself between form and formlessness, presence and invisibility. The complementary colour illustrations in the essay by art critic Mel Gooding include works by Jacopo Pontormo, Fra Angelico, Kasimir Malevich and Constantin Brancusi. English text.
