Melina Marchetta

The piper's son

You know what I love about Melina Marchetta?

She can make you care about her characters. Her every characters not only the main characters. Also I don't really know how she did it but her writing style was just so.. I don't know. It really speaks to me. I love Melina so much.

Thomas Finch Mackee. Oh god. I love this boy. He deserves happiness. And the friends he had. I love this boy so much. He's one of Francesca's friends from Saving Francesca. I really love how the characters from her other novels appeared in this one. It was so amazing I was so giddy when they were interacting. I really really crave the friendships in Marchetta's novels.

After reading this book I teared up because that's what her book will do to you trust me, I will never forget how I sobbed so hard in Jellicoe Road. This is the thing with her book. It will leave you some nostalgic feeling and a lesson and something that will stay on you for a long time.

The award-winning author of Finnikin of the Rock and Jellicoe Road pens a raw, compelling novel about a family’s hard-won healing on the other side of trauma. (Age 14 and up) Award-winning author Melina Marchetta reopens the story of the group of friends from her acclaimed novel Saving Francesca - but five years have passed, and now it’s Thomas Mackee who needs saving. After his favorite uncle was blown to bits on his way to work in a foreign city, Tom watched his family implode. He quit school and turned his back on his music and everyone that mattered, including the girl he can’t forget. Shooting for oblivion, he’s hit rock bottom, forced to live with his single, pregnant aunt, work at the Union pub with his former friends, and reckon with his grieving, alcoholic father. Tom’s in no shape to mend what’s broken. But what if no one else is either? An unflinching look at family, forgiveness, and the fierce inner workings of love and friendship, The Piper’s Son redefines what it means to go home again.

The Piper's Son

And Melina Marchetta breaks my heart again. I literally cried at least once in every single chapter, I swear. Bravo. I want to reach out and hug Tom Mackee and the gang I've come to know so well. Also, I need more Jimmy Hailler in my life.

He's quit uni and turned his back on his music and everyone that once mattered to him, including the girl he can't forget. But when his flatmates turn him out of the house, Tom moves in with his single, pregnant aunt, starts working at the Union pub with his former friends, and winds up living with his grieving, alcoholic father again.
