Bree is back with bang and it looks like her former deputy is still causing problems for her. Only this time he went and got himself killed and now she has to deal with the aftermath. Add in politics, misogyny and the old boy network, harassment and disgusting deepfakes, Bree and Matt have their hands full. Who hated Oscar and/or his mother enough to kill them in such a fashion? Any why is Bree being set up to take the fall? With the conflict of interest over Oscar, Bree has to hand over the investigation but that doesn't stop the harassment and when it teeters into her private life and affects her nephew, Bree won't take it anymore and decides to fight back but will it be too late? Fast-paced, highly emotive, and echoing with current events, where women's bodies are seen as public property and everyone has a say in what happens to it. The misogyny and double standards are everywhere and the deepfakes used against Bree are highly disturbing but sadly all too believable. I was kept guessing till almost the bog reveal when I had my big "AHA" moment. I had my heart in my mouth at times cos one of my favourite background characters got into major hot water and I really thought "oh no this is it". Always the sign of a good book when no character is safe! Never gets old or stale and the characters are so lifelike. I would love to have a bestie like Dana, she is awesomesauce. I heartily enjoyed the story and am so excited no that the whole "romance" is out in the open. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
