I read this in the weeks before traveling to Ethiopia to adopt our children. My understanding of Ethiopia and the situation of vulnerable children and the complexities of making a difference continue to be informed by this book. A must read for anyone adopting internationally and for anyone who wants to understand more about how difficult it is do the right thing, all the time, in every circumstance. All too human frailties, misjudgments and bad choices co-mingle with the passion and purpose to save the lives of children who have lost their families and their communities through poverty and disease. There are no easy answers here, which I now know to be absolutely true.
