You have been warned. :) Darkest Mercy picks up where Radiant Shadows ended. On her quest to start a war and become a regent, Bananach has fatally injured Irial and has been leaving a trail of destruction wherever she goes, leaving the Summer, Winter and Dark Courts to figure out how to stop her. Keenan and Donia..le sigh. They had the saddest relationship in my opinion. They have loved each other for years but they could never really be together. Just when she’s finally made it clear that she will no longer put up with him, he comes back intent on winning her back. Keenan really surprised me in this book. I would say I felt the same way about him that Aislinn did, but he was a manipulator, and therefore I couldn’t really empathize with him. He completely redeemed himself though. I never knew he was really like this, and I guess the only one who did was Donia. As soon as he showed up at Donia’s as a solitary, he won me over. I was so happy that Seth finally got Ash all to himself. He deserves happiness…they both do! Ash coming into her own, and ruling her court with confidence was incredibly nice to see. On to my favorites…Niall and Irial. I’m not going to lie…I cried a little for these two several times throughout this book. I think I might have thought I’d go crazy with grief right alongside Niall. I don’t know what it is about them that makes them my favorite, aside from being hot, sexy, and loyal, I mean. I think the idea of someone loving a person for centuries and not being able to be with them just kills me, and I think that’s why I was rooting for them to make it the most out of all the couples. I was glad Bananach FINALLY got what she deserved, but I do wish it hadn’t been at the expense of some of the lives she took. There were a couple of surprising kills!! Overall, the book was about love and loss, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending. I was completely over the moon at how perfect this book was, that I couldn’t even write about it right after finishing it. The way Melissa Marr writes is so beautiful to me! So poetic! And even though this series is over, I will anxiously wait until more of her books are out, because I guarantee you I’ll be reading them.
