The premise of this story is unique. A female princess who can’t take the throne because of the laws of her people. Instead there must be a ceremony for her to find her potential mate. If her mate is not found, then a tournament commences and any male who wants to compete for the crown can. With the aspect of dragons, For the Crown was a fun read with plenty of great components! 

The plot of the story is exciting! A possible mate bond and then a tournament meant to determine the strongest male. The possibilities are endless and I think the direction this book moves is a good one. The first half was the most engaging while the latter half lacked some oomph. Regardless, I enjoyed the way the author progressed through the book. 

Lena is a snarky female MC and reading about her pranks and tricks made me laugh. She definitely has a strong mind, so it made sense that she was upset at not being able to inherit the throne. As one of only two female princesses in Dragonwall history, the precedent hasn’t yet been set for a woman to take the throne. I felt for Lena and her frustration. There didn't seem to be a good reason for women not to be able to inherit the throne. While Lena expressed her frustration very adamantly, she really grew into her own and carved out a path for herself. It was nice to see her in a position of authority utilizing her skills.

Any book with a mysterious male character already has me intrigued and pulled in, which this one has. Tristin is mentioned in the synopsis of the story so I was already expecting and patiently waiting for his arrival. When he did arrive, I loved the way the mystery surrounding him was explored. We were able to learn things about the world while also unshrouding some of the mystery surrounding him.

The one aspect of this story that was disappointing was the romance. It had great build-up, but an underwhelming ending. I was expecting a little more, especially with some of the other relationships within the story. 

I enjoyed reading For the Crown. It has an intriguing plot, a snarky female MC, and a mysterious male character. I loved diving back into the world of Dragonwall and given that it is years before the Dragonwall series, it offers a peek behind the curtain. For anyone who has read the Dragonwall series, you should read this book! It's a fun addition to the world.

THIS BOOK IS SO FREAKIN’ AMAZING! And it has dragons in it (and I love dragons). But let me start at the beginning – Princess Lena cannot rule Dragonwall unless she finds a mate. Her father, the king, summons all the unmated dragons to the capital for a chance to find a mating bond. Unless she can find her mate, Lena will be forced to give up her crown and let one of the dragons rule.

I loved this book, and I need more of Melissa Mitchell’s books (I need to get to Dragonwall Series). Princess Selena is an amazing character who is very unprincessy and she causes a lot of trouble – I liked her because she was so natural and she actually made of a lot of mistakes, but she always took responsibility. Also, Tristan is most definitely book boyfriend material – where can I get one? He is mysterious, gallant and HE ACTUALLY RESPECTS LENA’S CHOICES. He is not pushy, and he is incredible. 

I enjoyed the worldbuilding a lot, and I’m usually very picky about that – I like the idea of Drengrs (dragons who also have human forms), and I only wish we could find out more about the world (though I suppose it’s described in her other books). I liked the selection part, it was very intriguing and then all the fighting. This book was really my type of book. And I liked how this time all the men were summoned to be kind of chosen by the princess where usually in books it’s the girls that have to compete for a prince. I won’t say more because don’t want to spoil anything, but I highly recommend this book.
