DNF. Could not even with either of the MCs. Lauren was immature and somewhat obnoxious. She receives news that her father died suddenly and instead of explaining that to her employer, she quits. 
Her (after the police call her and tell her her dad died): I have to go home early today.
Her work (with no idea what's going on): No, you can't just leave.
Her: Ok I quit. Bye.

Mmm kay. Maybe she could have tried at least telling them she had a family emergency? So now she has no job and no money. After coming across a Mysterious Box in her father's closet (which was conveniently next to several Unmysterious Boxes of photos that she and her dad regularly went through), she discovers he used to live in Alaska working with sled dogs. So basically within a few days, she learns her dad died, she quits her job, she sorts through his belongings, and decides to move to Alaska. 

She takes a job as a caretaker of an injured sledder (musher?) and his dogs but doesn't bother to do even basic research on sled dogs. She also petulantly refuses to read the manual her new boss put together and basically does whatever she wants. He tells her the shed is off limits, but of course, she tries to get into it immediately. She has zero respect for the job she took, the dogs, this man's privacy, etc. 

As for him, he's a massive grump to the point of being an unbearable asshole. He was hard to tolerate but she was the worst.

Do yourself a favor and read The Simple Wild instead.
