Memento An Illuminae Files Novella
Reviews

This novella really made me understand Aidan more. And I still love him.

** spoiler alert ** And with this... the Illuminae saga has officially concluded!! I loved that we got more of a glimpse into AIDAN and how he started to become more human, for lack of a better word. Even if this was short (and I would never say no to more of this world, universe and characters), it was fascinating to meet Olivia as a character, and to literally witness AIDAN becoming the AIDAN we know and love in the main series!!

77 pages yet it brought me to tears, brb i’m gonna reread the whole series

Novella molto carina.

holy mother of fucking hell this is... woah

Oh, AIDAN... no...

** spoiler alert ** 3.5 stars I loved that Memento was about AIDAN and what actually happened to him in the events before Kerenza. Who would've thought that a human actually made him speak in first person and taught him the trolley problem.. Although it was a short read I enjoyed the small romance and the humour and the quirkiness!

77 pages yet it brought me to tears, brb i’m gonna reread the whole series

This was a solid prequel novella. I will say that I didn't completely buy the romance, but I understand that it was integral to the plot. There are so many references to the other books in the trilogy. Small puzzle pieces that connect perfectly and I love getting more about AIDEN! And of course, there is a heartbreaking element, wouldn't be part of the Illuminae Files if it didn't get depressing towards the end lol.

I had no idea this book existed until today and the second i saw it i knew i needed to read it immediately, i loved it

I missed this world ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ This is making me reread the series even though I have no time for that (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

It can be "right" to kill one person to save five. Or kill a thousand to save a thousand and one. Your daughter taught me that lesson, priest. I will remember it well. Memento. Well that hit me right in the feels. I'm always hesitant to read novellas from my favorite series because I doubt that they will be able to be as amazing as the rest of the books in such few pages. Yet, somehow, Momento, within its 82 pages, manages to captivate the reader with just as much wonder and terror as the other 600 page books in the series. It details the backstory and creation of AIDAN, arguably the most interesting character in the series. It did not feel like this was written as an afterthought; it truly felt like the authors had this backstory for him while writing the whole series. It was heartbreaking to see what caused him to become so sentient yet callous in the following books. That one girl created both a monster and a savior. If you have read the other books in this series and are one of the few hundred people with this novella and haven't gotten around to it yet: Read it!!! You won't regret it.

A pretty good prequel to the illuminae files.

Who knew that I could be compelled to reread an entire series from an 80 page novella? Honestly, Aidan is a wonderful anti-hero and his origin story literally solidified that thought for me. I love knowing the how’s and why’s , Jay and Aimee provided that, excuse me while I go reread the Illuminae files.

84 pages of an intense roller-coaster ride. GOSH I MISSED THIS SERIES SO MUCH.

an origin story about my favorite AI? you can be sure i ABSOLUTELY enjoyed it

I'm not entirely sure I should have read it first. Although, I listened to the audiobook, and it was really presented well. The writing of an AI was done so well, and I felt very realistic about how an AI may write. I'm excited to read the rest of the series now.

I binged the audiobook on the day it released. A treat for any Illuminae Files superfan! Loved the small appearances from beloved characters, and the portrayal of Olivia’s grief was so moving. And of course, we love to hate AIDAN.
