Meredith Finch

A classic fantasy tale about a girl trying to restore balance to a broken world. Rose must connect with her Khat--Thorne--to become the Guardian the world needs. But things aren't easy for Rose and Thorne, the powerful sorcerous Drucilla has many powerful and demonic allies--all of them focused on stopping one scared little girl who's desperately trying to stay alive and do what's right.

Despite giving it 3.5, I really enjoyed this first issue. The artwork is lovely, I love the designs of the characters, and the story is definitely compelling enough for me to continue. However, a lot of plot was put into the first five comics, which I felt was a shame as the world building happened very (i.e., too) quickly. I'm hoping the subsequent issues expand on (and further explain) the world, especially our main character and the Queen! The queen reminds me a lot of 'villainous' characters I watched growing up (like the Trix from Winx, icons and legends that they are), so I love that.
