The concept is original and quite fun but the execution is flat, simple and a bit bland.

i really wish this was better...since i put it on my tbr i was so excited to get started with it bc the premise (and cover!!!) looked amazing

writing was definitely very expressive and while the setting & characters all seem individually quirky, everything else just falls flat... main character has zero agency—she's only there to drive dialogue and marvel at how amazing she finds everything lol. at some point i was very tempted to leave this book unfinished bc she has the personality of a children's show mc who points out every single obvious thing (that the rest of the cast already knows)

this felt more like a collection of short stories than an entire book... there's really no plot to tie everything together

i saw some reviews saying the translation probably messed their experience of this story up but i disagree. as someone who read this right after almond, i think the translator is incredible at their job... this book just really wasnt it

(also had the laugh of my life finding out kim yugyeom has a review published on the back of this book)

This book looked so damn cute. I think probably only read it for the cover. The world the author builds is rich and fascinating. We enter DallerGut's Dream Department store where dreams are sold in exchange for emotions. We visit characters such as Leprechauns, Nicholas, and also meet Noctilucas. We see a little bit of customer's lives and their troubles. Even dogs buy dreams in this world. Such a fun concept and vivid world building. 

The thing is this story is so shallow that if you tried to dive in you would hit your head on the bottom of the pool and never be able to walk again. The characters are shadowed in their world and just a little bit too shallow to give the reader anything to care about. I really wanted to love this book, but I found it to be a big waste of time and effort. There is no story that is really compelling or interesting or worth caring much about the world. It's a great adventure into the dream world as imagined, but that's not enough to justify this as a book over a short story.

DallerGut Dream Department Store is a place full of wonders and interesting characters. Lee frames this story through the lens of Penny, a new hire at the store, as she discovers all the wonderful things and people that find themselves at DallerGut’s. I loved the concept; from the moment you start reading Lee clearly outlines the world this story takes place in without confusing the reader. Each chapter feels like a story in itself, and I love how we catch glimpses of people’s lives before and after the visit DallerGut’s. I would love to read DallerGut Dream Department Store again and again.

This is definitely one of the most creative and interesting plot I have read all these years. The author has so much creativity and wonderful imagination to portrait dreams and link them to our daily lives.
