Where the Truth Lives
Reviews

Detective Reed Davies is called to a local mental facility, which is the scene of a homicide where the victim's eyes have been removed and replaced with a gooey black substance. The woman who discovered the body is Dr. Elizabeth Nolan, the woman Reed knows as Liza with whom he had a one night stand weeks before. As more bodies begin to turn up in the same condition, it becomes clear that there is another serial killer operating in Cincinnati. The city is still reeling from the destruction caused by Charles Hartsman, who Reed has discovered is his biological father. Liza's safety falls to Reed who must figure out what her connection is to the killer without letting his desire for her cloud his judgement. Where the Truth Lives is the second book in the Where duet and raises many thought provoking questions. The mystery in this story is both layered and well paced. There are multiple suspects, clues, and subplots to keep the reader interested from the beginning of the book right up to the end. While the romance between the protagonists is better than the one in Where the Blame Lies, it is still the weakest part of this book. Overall, Where the Truth Lives includes an excellent mystery with an extremely satisfying conclusion. Thanks again to Bree from In Love & Words for recommending this duet.

I would not recommend reading Where the Truth Lives as a stand-alone, as the knowledge of the prior publication Where The Blame Lies (readable as standalone) is crucial to enjoying #2, in my opinion. I read it in more or less one sitting, as it was a gripping pageturner, with mostly enjoyable characters.
