Mickey Haller has fallen on tough times. He expands his business into foreclosure defense, only to see one of his clients accused of killing the banker she blames for trying to take away her home.  Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too, and he's certain he's on the right trail.

It took me several years to finish that book because the first few chapters didn't really get me hooked, a story about foreclosure was not super fancy nor interesting. However I still love Mickey Haller as a character and the narration was good, so as soon as I switched to audio I was able to finish it in a day. 
The cliffhanger was so good, I'm excited to finally get back into my Michael Connelly series and see what happens to the characters next.

Bosch only makes a cameo appearance, but it is a solid book. While it’s a murder trial, it’s surrounded by house foreclosures and its seedy world. The narrator is great as usual and the story keeps hopping.

Oh, and it makes Haller want to do the unexpected at the end.

I wish I had another way to rate books - but that would make life so very complicated. I'm just going to stick with the "really liked it" statement and forget about good writing and deep characters and just report on the fact that I zipped through this book and enjoyed the meticulous reporting of a thorough criminal attorney winning a case for his client - guilty or not. Perry Mason, Matlock, Judd for the Defense -all those types of stories spring to mind. No flash except in front of the jury. As for whether or not Michael Connelly is a good writer? I'll take the fifth.

In this one Mickey Haller has started taking on a new type of client - the credit crunch is ramping up and he's representing people who are loosing their homes due to mortgage foreclosure by the banks. One of these new clients is accused of murdering the mortgage manager of a bank and he's back to being a criminal defense lawyer.

I really liked the angle of this one, the credit crunch, not living in the US it's fascinating how different the financial systems are. It also had the familiar characters of the series, his team of misfits and ex-wife + daughter.

The reason why I gave this one only three stars is because the ending of the case fell flat. The revelation at the end I guessed and I think was familiar to another Connelly book? However the next book looks promising if it has anything to do with Haller's action at the very end.
