This was such a tedious read! The story started off very slowly and by the time the pace finally picked up I was no longer interested. What's more, I felt no sympathy or interest for any of the characters and didn't care what might happen to them. A boring, uninteresting read.

Well, that was what I was going to write until the final two chapters. I was listening to this as an audiobook on a car trip after regaling to my wife how wonderful “The Lincoln Lawyer” was. I turned ”The Brass Verdict” off about halfway through to end my wife’s suffering.

The missing ingredient? Suspense. TLL not only had the suspense of the on-going trial, but the immediate, imminent threat of Haller’s death.

The suspense in the majority of this book? That Haller just got out of rehab and was given the 30 cases of a murdered lawyer — AND HOW WILL HE HANDLE IT??!?? ooooo.

When finally in the courtroom, there was a lengthy Law & Order 101 on Voir Dire and gun residue tests.

After some actual lawyering, drama finally arrives big time, and there’s a shocking ending. Enough for me to bump my rating from a 1 to a 2.5. Maybe it reads better, but can’t recommend anyone listening to 10 1/2 hours of this for a one-hour, very-good ending.
