What an unbelievable story!

Little thin on the source matter. The actual hermit is a taciturn and probably autistic curmudgeon that seemed to be a tough nut to crack for the author. His testimony is stretched into a dozen or so chapters here. Still, it's a fascinating and easy read, and the author doesn't take too many liberties to assign meaning and motive to the hermit's actions, nor does the hermit for that matter, leaving the reader free to surmise.
