I have to say I really love this new series. Midnight and its zany citizens are wonderful. The mystery is intriguing but it is the lives and personalities of the characters that kept me turning the pages. I was left wanting MORE book:) I cannot wait for the next installment of this series. Charlaine Harris gets a perfect score with this wonderful new series.

After the huge let down from the Sookie series I was hoping to find this series making up for it, sadly that just wasn't the case. I will admit I love Charlainne Harris style in the sense she give you so much, so many different types of "people" so many back stories but not total back stories. This book way slow going and about half way though I didn't think I could finish; I actually ended up reading the ending and being so shocked I went back and read the part I skipped. If there is one thing Harris knows how to do its shock you, this ending really did throw me and even though it was very unsettling I liked it. All in all I liked the idea of the book and the feel of the characters, it was just so slow going, but worth the read in my opinion.

Book #49 Read in 2017 Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris This is the first book in a paranormal trilogy by Harris, known for her Sookie Stackhouse paranormal series. There is a TV show of this series starting in a few weeks so I wanted to read the first book before watching the show. Midnight, Texas is a refuge for those who are not exactly normal, but the town accepts that about them. There is a witch, a vampire, a talking cat and a psychic. This book had a murder plot that had decent twists and turns and kept me guessing. I will continue reading this series.

3 1/2 stars... I’m a huge fan of the Sookie stackhouse novels (who isn’t??) so just had to give this book ago... I enjoyed it but I didn’t, I really like the people in the super small town of midnight and they are really what the book is about... who they are, why they are really there etc and that’s why I want to read the other two books.

Not sure why I waited so long to read this one but I really enjoyed it! It is a mix of fantasy and mystery and the balance of the genres is just right. This is Charlaine Harris at her best, combining the two genres she does best!

I was sad when the Sookie books ended, but now I have another Charlaine Harris series to look forward to! I enjoyed all the quirky new characters and can't wait to see what happens next.

I really enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse books, and this made me want to read more Charlaine Harris books. I read this book at about the same time in 2015 (odd, that!), and I enjoyed it then, but thought that was because it was because I enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse books, but actually, they're not really alike at all. These books have a cast of characters. Whilst we do concentrate a little more on Manfred's point of view, it shifts around, whereas in Sookie books, we stayed with Sookie! Midnight is a strange hamlet, where no one asks about your past, or your reasons for moving to this odd little place. Some of the characters you would recognise from other books, like Manfred and Bobo, but otherwise, this is a new cast, but still in the world of Sookie Stackhouse, and Lily Bard (Harris' other set of fantasy books).
