3.5 stars I’ve been wanting to try to finish books I’ve started but ended up setting aside. I read the Book 1, The Glittering Court, over 2 years. I had tried to pick up the Midnight Jewel shortly after it came out but just couldn’t get into it. I finally picked it back up, got a few pages in and need to skim through book one to get a refresher. It took a bit for me to get into this book again. There is something about this world that doesn’t seem easy. Something feels so forced and unnatural, I almost think it was the names of the towns and countries that didn’t really make sense to me. With that said, I did end up enjoying this installment more than the first. I really enjoyed Mira. I loved how independent and strong she was. It was nice to see less of the Glittering Court and more of less glamorous side to this world. I thought the romance was cute and made me laugh. I’d really appreciate that the romances in this series are not insta-love and the relationships are built first. In Midnight Jewel, I didn’t always love the “roadblocks” to the relationship. There was argument that I thought was so stupid and unnecessary, but I guess for tension building it was something. Overall, I did enjoy Mira’s journey in Midnight. I’m looking forward to finding out more about Tamsin’s journey in the Emerald Sea. (Which I already started reading and have a theory that seems to have panned out in the first chapter!)

3.5 Stars The way this series is written is very interesting since it tells the same story from different points of view. Because of this, some ideas are repetitive, but the author has created 3 solid characters to base these stories around so that each installment is as interesting as the rest. I found the beginning to be a bit slow but once the story was established and picked up a bit I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed getting to know Mira's character a bit better and see all the secrets she was keeping.

These books are just really freaking long. I liked it a little better than the first but honestly at this point I'm just praying Tamsin's story contains a love story where I actually like the love interest and am even slightly emotionally involved. Would much rather have the focus of the story be these girls' friendship rather than their various relationships.
