If you know me, you know how much I love Star Wars. Obi-Wan is my favorite Star Wars character, and always has been. I’m so thankful 2022 was the year of Obi-Wan. First, with Mike Chen’s brilliant entry in Star Wars canon, second, with Kiersten White’s equally as brilliant Padawan (5 stars) and third, with Obi-Wan Kenobi. All three left me weepy, but nothing matches the feeling of *nooo, I hate how the future turns out and I never want this to end* Star Wars Brotherhood had everything I wanted, from Anakin connecting with a youngling, Asajj Ventress, SATINE, and Obi-Wan at his most insightful and reflective. This made me want to immediately go rewatch the Clone Wars. I will think about this for weeks to come and this is a book I will be purchasing so I can re-read anytime I want. I’ve included a few passages that stuck with me and made me so dang emo 🖤

I was so stoked when this one was announced! Anything Obi-wan and Anakin based is my jam. Not to mention an almost-Clone Wars prequel story? 

This one does start very slow and at first I wasn’t sure where it was going. It takes some time to explore the fact that Anakin has just become a Jedi knight, that Obi-wan has just become an interim Jedi Master (also never knew this was a thing!), and the fact that Anakin and Padme have just married and are now balancing hiding a marriage with war. 

Anakin spends some time mentally battling the idea of having a synthetic arm and the author does a good job of linking that plot line to Anakin processing some insecurities in terms of inadequacy. It also introducing the idea that Anakin was included in a rushed program to put Padawans through the jedi trials, so the insecurities is a branch off of that. Anakin might have been ready, he might have succeeded, but he was also part of the largest group ever passed to knighthood. Now he has to accept that and get called ‘general’ by the clones? 

The author does an awesome job of writing Obi-wan. He’s always trying to calm everything down and sue for peace. Even if it costs him personally, he still agrees to put himself into dangerous situations. Aka, find out what “…that business on Cato Neimoidia doesn't count” means! 

One thing that didn’t really work for me is Anakin working with a youngling, named Mill Alibeth. He is overseeing the delivery of medicinal supplies when he learns that she has a special force ability that lets her feel raw emotions. This leads to him trying to help her and train her…aka kind of a lean in to him “earning” a Padawan. The idea itself isn’t bad, but the bond they seem to build in this one seems like it would more than likely end up being her then…not Ashoka, who is at this point completely unknown to him. Although it ends differently, it just seems weird based off how totally against a Padawan he is when Ashoka arrives.

I just finished this about 2min ago, and I don’t have the words to describe all my emotions. 

I love that this book was all about that time in Cato Nemodia that doesn’t count 😘 Also the way Mike Chen included references to other works was outstanding 🤩 The sun dragon, the quotes, Padme things, etc… 

I’m ready to read this again already lol I love this book so much

It felt like listening to a really good episode of Clone Wars 💜 worth the 3 month wait for the audiobook from the library!

This was just an extended clone wars episode, loved it. Mill and Ruug were both excellent characters, and the exploration of the origin of the brothers bond between Anakin and Obi-Wan was really well done. Really fun and enjoyable, can't wait for the Obi-Wan show.

One of my favorite Star Wars books to date. After finalizing the Kenobi series on Disney+, I think this book gives so much insight into the relationship of Obi Wan and Anakin. There are parts so difficult to read when we look at Ani before his shift to the dark side, and the whole book captures his heart in such a good light. 
There's mentions of Cal Kesits (YAY), a stronger look at the relationship between Satine and Obi Wan, and even Padme and Ani. Diving into these relationships and the struggles of war really highlights the importance of Star Wars to a lot of people, and Mike Chen did an amazing job personalizing them and making them feel more like us.
