I found this book entirely too predictable. I could tell from the very beginning how Tommy would deal with the death of his father, poorly, and that he would end up doing something stupid that would jeopardize his season and that in the end he would learn a valuable lesson and be better off for it. Even though, I am not a huge football fan, that was not a turn off for me. Instead, what I did not like about the book was the predictability, the lack of deep diving into the characters and their motives, like why did Emily quit the soccer team? Lupica never really answers that question.

I think adolescent boys would enjoy this book, especially those who enjoy football. I, however, definitely do not fit that target demographic.
