A raw and harsh story about a reality that many women are still living by the hand of a patriarchal society that keeps on belittling their lives. So many women are lead to believe that they will never be better, smarter, or as capable as a man, a lie that is said by both men and women in a cycle that has to be broken.
"The best girls" is a short story but it packs a punch, especially in the end where you can feel the suffering of the narrator, but at the same time the acceptance of something undesirable but inevitable.

Oooh... was not expecting that! A short story that seems tame the whole way through but will send chills through your spine on that last line. Listened to it on a car ride home. Always love Min Jin Lee’s work.
