Utak and Audrey had a great story but they were so many things left unexplained! They are both intelligent, determined and capable individuals. After their initial meeting snafu, they work well together and are a bit of force of nature.

The secondary characters were all pretty well fleshed out and I'm intrigued to see what develops between them relationshipswise.

Utak did keep some major things secret from Audrey but the contract had been forged when he was a child so I think Audrey would have seen that and they could have worked out something. Audrey definitely let him off the hook way too easy! Audrey isn't exactly innocent here either. She knew that Utak's race use contracts for EVERYTHING and once the cat was out of the bag then she could have realised that this wasn't a straightforward arrangement. It's like she leapfrogged from highly intelligent, capable woman into naïve, gullible and easily fragile.

I really wish Myndaria had been braver and gone to Utak and they could have got out of the whole mess with less hurt and mudslinging. I guess bigotry is still well and truly a thing in the future!

I felt that the ending could have done with a wee bit more on the trafficking. I'm hoping this will flow into the other books in the series so that this storyline is dealt with in more depth. I am also a bit worried about where Zarek's son has been during the book. He seems to have vanished!
