Misfit in Love

Misfit in Love

S. K. Ali2021
In this fun and fresh sequel to Saints and Misfits, Janna hopes her brother’s wedding will be the perfect start to her own summer of love, but attractive new arrivals have her more confused than ever. Janna Yusuf is so excited for the weekend: her brother Muhammad’s getting married, and she’s reuniting with her mom, whom she’s missed the whole summer. And Nuah’s arriving for the weekend too. Sweet, constant Nuah. The last time she saw him, Janna wasn’t ready to reciprocate his feelings for her. But things are different now. She’s finished high school, ready for college…and ready for Nuah. It’s time for Janna’s (carefully planned) summer of love to begin—starting right at the wedding. But it wouldn’t be a wedding if everything went according to plan. Muhammad’s party choices aren’t in line with his fiancée’s taste at all, Janna’s dad is acting strange, and her mom is spending more time with an old friend (and maybe love interest?) than Janna. And Nuah’s treating her differently. Just when things couldn’t get more complicated, two newcomers—the dreamy Haytham and brooding Layth—have Janna more confused than ever about what her misfit heart really wants. Janna’s summer of love is turning out to be super crowded and painfully unpredictable.

It wasn't for me ig. There wasn't much that i loved nor was there anything i hated. So yeah 2 stars because the writing was good and i liked the main characters. The plot is just not riveting enough for me too keep on reading. Nothing much is happening and i think this book was written with the character's first and the plot second. ...

When SK Ali said this book is full of Muslim Joy, she is right and I love this book so much for that! It also discusses anti-Blackness within the Mulsim community and the discussion raised is so important. It is important that we held each other accountable, especially if their actions hurts others, systematically, and within bias. the will-they-won't-they arc is also so cute shgshshs Janna and Nuah I can't even-- and yes I'm team Jannuah 😌 A very happy book that discuss love, and many different form of them

Me: reserved, still learning to open my heart to a bigger circle of people. Still learning about my capacity to give and love. it took me while to be into this book mainly because it doesn't feel like a continuation of saint and misfits. i was expecting something different than what was happening when this book started. that being said, i still loved this book. and i absolutely love janna's character just as i did in saint and misfits. maybe even more. i can totally relate with her character in this book, to the point where i bawled my eyes out because we were in similar places and had similar thoughts. adam and zayneb attending the nikah also put a smile on my face. i didn't expect zayneb would have a big appearance. she was even interacting with janna! i really thought she (and adam) was just gonna be mentioned. what i also totally didn't expect was sausun and haytham! i'm not opposed to reading a novella about them [eye emoji] Well, all I'm going to say is this: Let there be all kinds of love.

Zayneb stands in front of the gazebo, before the steps, waiting for all of us to get ready.

“You guys done shifting?” Zayneb’s arms are crossed.

In the short time I’ve known Zayneb, I’ve never heard her voice so stern.

“Okay, we’re coming.” She turns to her fiancé, who’s sitting in the front row of the guest seating, the cane he was using before leaning against the back of his chair. She helps him up by turning another chair around, so he can grab the back of it, and then gives him his cane. They make their way up the steps, Zayneb matching her speed to Adam’s.

"Zayneb’s super protective of him right now,”

when Zayneb suddenly looks beyond me. Her expression changes, like actually transforms. Softened, lit up, buoyant. Now that’s the look when sunny skies invade your entire self. I glance behind me, and there’s a guy walking toward us with a cane, though he’s young. He’s kind of tall and thin, and looks like maybe he’s partly East Asian and white, and really handsome in a quiet, old-time-movie-star way. He’s in a trim suit, also grayish mauve, and when I notice the color, that’s when it hits me: This must be Adam. “How did it go?” Zayneb asks, her voice rising as she goes down the gazebo steps to meet him. He stops walking, and they talk a bit away from us, and just from the way they’re looking at each other, and the way their clothes match so perfectly, I know for certain that this really is Adam.

Ahhh i love themmm
