Emily Davis

Emily Davis was as well-known in Fairacre and Beech Green as her friend, Dolly Clare. Both spent their lives within ten miles of their village homes, and were school teachers who inspired affection and respect in several generations of children. When they retired they shared Miss Clare's cottage in Beech Green, and their serene companionship was tinged with sadness only when they contemplated the prospect of one of them being left alone in the future. This day arrives, but Emily lives on in the recollections of her family, her friends, her lover, and her pupils.
