This has been the best book in this series yet. Some of my complaints about the earlier books are that we didn't get much detail or backstory on the characters. That really changed in this book. We got a lot of flashbacks to younger Maleficent and her life, more characters, and almost everyone's POV. It did get a little confusing at times, since it was constantly changing which character's story we were following. I actually enjoyed all the details, and we got some pretty interesting stuff revealed.

I liked this book overall but there was a lot going on, so much that it was confusing at times. I really liked Maleficent’s childhood with Nanny. I like the introduction of all the fairies we know. But it seemed a bit too jam packed and too much time was spent on introducing these characters and story lines rather than focusing on Maleficent herself. There was one part especially about discussing Cinderella that just didn’t seem necessary to add. I thought Maleficent and Aurora’s relationship was very interesting but was rushed through and maybe there should have been some story devoted to their time together in her 16 years and more of her motivation to curse her. And I think it was all what was being told by Maleficent to Nanny? I wish it wasn’t written as a story being told by that person to someone and we were just reading it as it was happening but the books switch around in time so that’s just the way it is. Of course we know Maleficent had to die but her death felt rushed too. It was sad but it was interesting to be told the story of how she embraced the evil within her.

           The story of maleficent had always been one of my favourite tales with her being one of my favourite characters as I always have felt that she is misunderstood. Seeing to the story of maleficent as a child and the role the odd sisters had to play in this fairytale was well written and a joy to read. The logic in the original curse is all to close to home for maleficent and with the background knowledge that I got from the book, it all but makes me feel for her.

I loved this book and how it was written. I like the backstory of Maleficent and how each book ties in with the previous books from this series.

Best quote in my opinion in the story:
"Why must a young girl need a man to save her? Why can't a princess fight for her own life, break her own curse? Why must it always be a prince?" 

This quote stuck with me the whole story.
