definitely much much more of an emotional rollercoaster compared to volume 1 and i'm glad i actually bought my own copy this time so i can annotate it :D highlighted a lot of hualian and more importantly fengqing (!!! bc i always end up liking a non-canon side ship more than the very much canon main ship) bits that i liked and i hope to see more of my emotionally constipated rival martial gods of the south who have been at each others throats for 800 years <3 also haha tangina dami ko pa nanaman nalaman na spoilers

tinatamad pa ako mag-sulat ng maayos na review (not that maayos ako mag-review) but i'm incapable of rating tgcf anything other than 5 stars so ayan edit: tinatamad parin ako nang maayos na review so i'll just list down some thoughts in bullet points bc ganun naman talaga ako mag-review sa book journal ko dati before pa ng goodreads FJKSHDFKJAHSD ✿ ang saket so much ng taizi dianxia arc but i love it so much parin bc of bby xianle trio huhu :(( they're so dear to me i love them so much <3 seeing xie lian so idealistic and optimistic and so so bright before the world crashed down on him and shattered his rose-colored glasses.... it was so tragic and bittersweet to me :( but also fengqing moments na vv ang love language ay bardagulan at manaket :) ✿ tbh i actually really like qi rong like yes he's a little shit but he's MY rat man skrunkly little shit + qr and xl interactions are peak dysfunctional sibling dynamics and i love xl's petty bitch side shining through whenever he has to deal with qr (and hc rin when he visits puqi shrine near the end) ✿ this volume made me appreciate shi qingxuan so much more bc i love him sm already but mas minahal ko siya lang talaga with this volume esp dun sa mid-autumn festival part!!! ✿ speaking of the mid-autumn festival, fave part ko siya of the book!! xie lian, shi qingxuan, and ming yi all sitting next to each other and sqx hyping everyone (esp xl) up huhu i love her!! and the battle of the lanterns xie lian dcurb ang three thousand lanterns baka bbygirl q yan!!!! ✿ also the three tumors are so funny to me i do not know if crack ship ko lang sila or ship talaga but regardless tuwang-tuwa ako sa kanila ESPECIALLY if andun rin si sqx bc ang funny ng interactions niya sa three tumors esp kay pei ming bc it rlly is giving little sibling that doesn't like her older sibling's friends/partners ✿ alangan di magpapatalo hualian bc the hualian was vv hualian in this book (like ik na about the underwater kiss before i even started this volume bc andami ko nang nakalap na spoilers sa series na to pero that didn't stop me from going "tangina mga bading!!!!!" when i finally read it)

I LOVE U XIE LIAN

Learning about Xie Lian’s past and how long Hua Cheng has always been there with hope in his heart over him as a God… really makes me so sad…. Xie Lian just wanted to be good to and for everyone & he couldn’t because he defied fate and no matter the outcome he was going to end up being the one in turmoil.. starting book three so im hoping for more huanglian (in the present) because this book was a little heavy on the sadder side

** spoiler alert ** I've said it once and I'll say it again - HuaLian have taken over my life and they should take over yours too.

How does one handle tragedy and disaster? Reading through Xian Le's backstory gave me frustration and depression. What is the answer to the disasters of the world? How can we stop it? Is it all futile? Being faced with these difficult questions made this  book hard to read at points, but I'm so curious to see where the story will go.

This picks up quickly and almost immediately throws us into Xie Lian's past. His kingdom, how he became a heavenly official, how his fate became intertwined with Hua Cheng's. Not before introducing me to my all time favorite Wrath Qi Rong who I couldn't hate because he's too damn hilarious even though he makes Xue Yang look sane. (If you read Master of Demonic Cultivation or saw The Untamed, you know what a tall statement that is.)

There is a lot going and many things you cannot take at face value. Even more so than the usual MTXT book. This volume solidified my interest in the series and my love for Xie Lian as a much more complex character than he appeared. Even Hua Cheng's devotion kind of gets an 'aha' moment because it's so well justified.

OHMYGOD. The first half made my heart physically hurt like idk if I was about to have a heart attack or if that’s just me but ouch. That didn’t stop me from devouring this book. The other half had me grinning like an idiot and tabbing every other line sooo

this volume contains some of my absolute favorite arcs; ghost city, fangxin guoshi, pre-ascension...mwah! delicious fucking food!!
