Am amazed by how Maya's mother handled their life when she became an adult. If only our parents could know this and act upon it. If only parents took care of their children psychological health, their encouragement on doing things they wanted. A role model in fact.

Inspiringly emotional

I read this as part of Our Shared Shelf, and really enjoyed it. Maya Angelou writes with such an easy style that you want to keep reading, and find out what all happened. She writes about her life with such grace and gives you all of the facts.

Wow...Ms. Angelou was a woman who had been through a lot in her life. She was also a phenomenal woman of many talents. I had no clue of some of the jobs she held. Her mother was a force to be reckoned with and I'm glad that even though she didn't know her mom in her youth that she found and grew to love her mom as a tween. It took some time to grow the bond they had but it was nothing short of loving and wondrous once they found each other. Thank you Ms. Angelou for your style, grace, and wit and for the mother that birthed it! I enjoyed this autobiography and it makes me want my mom here with me. I talk on the phone with my mom almost everyday and I take after her having a strong head on my shoulders. Most of all I don't put up with people's bullshit...she taught me that and I am forever grateful she raised me that way!

As much as I like Maya Angelou there comes a certain point where reading multiple autobiographies about the same person gets a bit old after a while.
