This one was hard to get into. I remember dnfing it the first time I tried this series years ago after 80 pages. I thought it was because my preteen brain was just struggling to keep up with all the characters and politics but it was still difficult for me this time around too and I nearly dnfed it again. That being said, I did find myself still generally enjoying the story—especially the second half. I was honestly surprised at the brutality of this book but for me that’s a good thing.

I really enjoyed this book! I didn't quuuuite love it as much as the first, but it was still really good. I thought that the character arcs were starting to take shape for the rest of the series. Some were more subtle than others, but all were done well.

I remember when I first read this book, I had a problem with what the author was doing with Lucia. She starts to change and become darker, and when I first read it, I thought it came out of nowhere. Now that I've reread it, I can see what she's doing and felt that the descent was more fleshed out and paced better. Also, Nic kinda annoyed me this book. I get it, you wanna protect the girl you love from the evil tyrant. But you just can't see the big picture and are so wrapped up in your own feelings that you can't see anyone else's point of view! So, yes, I hope he improves. 

Despite all of the things happening this book, for some reason, it felt like nothing much happened. I think that was why I didn't enjoy it as much. It definitely introduced some new characters and set pieces, and a lot of action happened, but in my opinion, not much happened that will affect the overall plot. 

In short, I still loved this book and devoured it pretty quickly. I'm gonna take a small break from this series and then get back to it so I can finish it with more energy.

*Side note: I see why everyone is on board the Magneo ship. I'm not fully invested in it yet, but I am starting to come around don't worry ;)

This book (and this whole series, as far as I can tell) is filled with insta-love, completely devoid of any fun banter or sharp dialogue, and written in a simplistic way that makes powerful scenes fall flat like a pancake.

And yet... it is weirdly compelling, and after a weak beginning, I found that I didn’t want to put this book down. The storyline is a mix of classics elements but coupled with pretty decent world-building, it’s intriguing and kept me interested.

The characters are not necessarily super original, but they are distinctive enough and well differentiated within the story. And despite the fact that the dialogue really could use some work, and the too-frequent references to someone crushing on someone else, I find that I have developed a bond with the characters and I really do want to know where the story goes.

This is just a hair above 3 1/2 STARS for me – despite its many faults, the myths and other elements that make up the world building are fairly detailed and well thought-out. It's just unfortunate that the writing is so simplistic and uninspiring, because it would often pull me right out of the story.

That said, it does have me itching to get the next book ASAP, so that counts for something!

Reading this book has been a chore. Some chapters were interesting and others were what the hell, are you serious?
Alright, lets start with Lucia, she killed hundreds of innocent folks but somehow thinks she is not to blame. Sway! how did you arrive at that conclusion sis? that's not how this works. 




Then Magnus, oh boy! I might need a drink for this. Magnus acknowledges that his dad is evil and claims he doesn't want to be like his dad. Problem is his actions doesn't quite match his words. Even his words contradict. He is a douche-bag who throws a pity party and blame HIS own actions on his dad. And then you have the unrequited love he has for Lucia. Basically it was a chore reading both magnus & lucia's pov. 

In the first book, Jonas was the only main character I liked. Cleo joined him in this book. I've loved her development through both books. She is very smart and uses it to her advantage.

Ashur and Lysandra (I LOVE her) were characters who intrigued me. I hope we get to see more of them in the next book. And please for the love of god, less of lucia & magnus. 
On a side note, can we lift our wands for Queen Althea.

i’m going to be honest, I completely forgot everything from the first book but knew I didn’t like it enough to want to re-read it. and then I picked this one up bc it’s been on my tbr forever and I own a copy of it…. the book wasn’t bad it just wasn’t the best & not very memorable. some of the characters seemed like caricatures of characters from different fantasy series like game of thrones idek… also this wasn’t a bad thing, but magnus kept alternatively giving me maven & cal calore vibes 😭😂 the plot was ok, but yeah I also own the third one so I guess i’ll be reading that one too 💀

This series is home for me. I have never connected to a series as much as I have connected to the fallen Kingdom series. I love the plot, the characters and their flaws, and the tension. 

Jonas Is the leader of the rebel resistance and is forced into a position where each decision he makes will affect everyone around him. 

Cleo, still reeling from the loss of her family, friends, and her kingdom, knows she needs to make alliances in order to gain back her kingdom. 

Magnus is forced to marry Cleo, though neither of them are happy about it. He is also dealing with his father, the king, and the loss of someone dear to him. 

Lucia is still coming to terms with her magic and wondering if she is as dangerous as many fear.

The second installment in the Falling Kingdoms series, and quite a bit easier to read than the first. I regret to say that I do not feel for any of the characters, or relate to them in any way. The story is written as a decent story, but with no real character depth. There is very little on their histories, as if they came into being only the moment a character was written on the page. Perhaps they were.

I plan to write a review for this to hopefully explain on my feelings on this book a little better.

Because right now, I just feel so conflicted. There are definitely aspects of this book that I'm interested in, and I do plan to continue the series. However, there are quite a few bits of this book that I felt really meh about or felt they were unnecessary or just in there for shock factor.

I still stand by what I said with the previous book that is moves so fast, and there isn't enough time for character development but I think it's for more unpredictability factor. I LOVED this book. So much more than book 1!

This story was like fast food to me. I binged it all down because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, then I felt sort of bad after. Rhodes sure likes to shock; I lost count of the number of characters who got sword-ed in the heart. The problem for me it shocked, but then I didn't really care. For my adult brain there just wasn't enough character development for the deaths to matter or make me sad.

Plus, the sheer amount of hormonal longings became a litle overwhelming. The love is very teen, hyperbolic and all consuming until the next pretty face comes around. I also found out the third novel is not the last, so I'm feeling I've read enough until this series is complete.

I can already tell this series is going to take me on twists and turns that I am not going to expect. This is only the second book in the series and I can't even tell you how many twists there were in this book that I wasn't expecting! I was on the edge of my seat for every page, and I already can't wait to get started on the next book of the series! One thing I really enjoyed about this book was you can really see the character development, and the character's have really changed from book one to now. 

 I remember when I started book one, I was a little intimidated by how many POV's there were in this story, but somewhere in the middle of book, it just clicked. If you like court intrigue, battle, magic, and some amazing, slow-burning romance, this series is for you! I really recommend this book! It will keep on your toes, and you will think the book is going in one directions, but take you on a completely different path! I hope you like staying up to 1 a.m.

I've never encountered a story in which all of the main characters are terrible, awful people you don't want to root for, although I'm sure this is done on purpose. While there is an end goal for all of the characters involved, there doesn't appear to be distinctive conflicts in the first and second book; rather this appears to be one very long story broken up into books.

Unpopular opinion alert: 
So I absolutely loved this book? 



I am not sure what all my friends read, but maybe they needed to go into the book knowing the characters and stories develop and maybe have someone else read it to them (aka audio book). The narrator, Fred Berman, wasn't my absolute favorite narrator of all times, but it might have been him reading it that made me rate these books higher.

Let me explain.

When you are reading it to yourself, you are reading it slowly and in your own voice. I listen to audio books at a stupid fast rate and also, it breaks me of a habit I have had since I picked up my last book: reading the ending. I think hearing something being done instead of reading it in your own voice can dramatically change your opinion on something. Which is what I believe is happening here. If I would have just old-schooled this and read it myself, I probably would have given up a long time ago.

But I kind of loved it? 

These KIDS are acting like KIDS because they are KIDS, even though they are KIDS with a lot of responsibilities and goals. Not to mention most of these kids are rich kids on top of being just a kid. So they are even worse than normal.



We have a captive princess who is being forced to marry the exact person who killed "the love of her life" (oh high school love), we have a rebel who has to team up with someone who he believes helped the murder of his brother along (get your head in the game Jonas), we have the prince who is trying to please his father and at the same time kind of wants him to die, and we have the most powerful being in the whole world in a sleep-like trance and falling in love with someone who is, in my opinion, rudely interrupting needed dream time! 

These are all children guys. They make really stupid decisions. It keeps it interesting in my opinion. 

I just find this series to be completely interesting. I love how many point of views it has, I love the majority of the characters and I can find myself being ruined at the end of this book because I know so many of these beloved characters are going to die. But alas, I keep reading.

Oh, and speaking of dying, and someone I wanted to die from book one chapter one finally did..



so that also might have helped me love this book so much more. Like a lot more. Like flipping finally.

This series frustrates me so much. The story is SO interesting and cool and I enjoy it a lot, but the execution is TERRIBLE. The writing is bland, fake and fabricated, the plot lines are dull and predictable, but the overarching story is so fun. I hate reading it but I like knowing more about it. Ugh.

Se dovessi valutare solo la storia, sarebbe da quattro stelle ma i personaggi, Dio se sono orribilmente noiosi! Cambiano idea ogni cinque secondi, cambiano loce interest, cambiano persino chi odiano e chi no. Inoltre ho come l'impressione che Lucia sia usata come un giocattolo ed è una cosa che non mi va molto a genio. 
La serie la continuo perché la storia mi piace e mi intriga, ma di tutti i personaggi credo mi importi solo di Cleo, Lucia e Alexius il resto potrebbe benissimo crepare in atroci dolori in due pagine e non mi importerebbe niente. 

Ah, smettetela di spacciare questa serie per high fantasy perché non ci va nemmeno lontanamente vicino ;)
