Motion is a lot different than the books I've read by Penny so far (I'm still catching up on all her books, I was a bit late to the game, haha). Even though it was different, that definitely wasn't in a bad way! Motion has everything I look for in a romance book:humor, the slow-burn will they, won't they? and characters you come to love!

The last thing Mona was expecting to do is to pretend to be her sister. Let's just say they don't have the "normal" family many do. Their parents are celebrities and Mona is very smart. Starting college at 15 smart. Mona is a character who needs structure and a reason to do things. For her it makes no sense to pretend to be someone she isn't.

Abram is Mona's brother's best friend and has been assigned to watch Lisa (Mona's sister) until their parents get back. He's described as a musician still figuring out what he wants, but having fun while doing that. I loved the fact that he reads romance books, haha. For me it would've been just a little more interesting if we had Abram's POV a few times. Mona is definitely unique and a lot of fun to read about, but a glimpse at his thoughts about everything would've just added something extra to Motion!

I loved reading about Mona pretending to be her sister. She's very scientific and is interested in how things work and research is her passion. So the makeup, hair and clothes that don't cover much are not something she's used to. Mona discovers a lot in this book, especially emotions she's never felt. I think my favorite part of this book is her letting herself feel and think outside of the box. Sometimes thinks aren't always logical.

It's fun seeing Abram and Mona interact, because Abram doesn't know it's Mona. And Mona is trying so hard to pretend to be her sister. The moments we read with them are funny and you can definitely feel the attraction that starts to develop.

This story isn't really fastpaced, but that didn't bug me at all. I think Mona interacting with Abram and pretending to be her sister opened a whole new world. Especially with Gabby's (her best friend's sister) guidance every once in awhile. It's clear there's a lot of family history and I hope we get more of that in the next book.

All in all, Motion was a fun read and I can't wait to see how the characters' journey will continue after the little cliffhanger this book gave us!

Penny Reid's books are like catnip for me. They're smart, funny and sexy and, more often than not, I find myself cheesy-grinning my way through the entire thing. Motion was all of these things and, yes, I did grin my way through the entire book. It's been ages since I read a true novella series like this, one that follows the same couple throughout — and has cliffhangers — but if anyone can make me do it, it's Penny. 

Mona was the perfect combination of smart, awkward and charming. She was totally relatable. I want to be her friend. Now it's been ages since I read the Elements of Chemistry series, so I only vaguely remembered Abram going in. It didn't matter though, because it didn't take me all that long to fall for him in Motion. He's just so ... unf. He's got a good heart and he and Mona have some wicked chemistry together. I can't wait to see how everything unfolds.

The blurb for Motion is fairly vague, so I'm going to keep my review the same. I'm not going to get into the plot here. Truth be told, I didn't even read the blurb until I started writing my review. I like going into books blind. I suggest you do the same here. It's Penny Reid. She won't do you wrong. Trust her. I will say I didn't want to sit this book down once I started. It was addicting. 

Motion was a super quick and easy read that left me wanting more. That cliffy, y'all... I mean, I was warned going in but OMG. I need more and I need it now. (But, I think I can wait a few weeks. Maybe. I know it'll be worth the wait.)

Elements of Chemistry is one of my FAVORITE new adult romances, so to say I was excited for Penny Reid’s next NA trilogy would be an understatement. We met Abram previously in Capture, part 3 of EoC, and I have to admit I was fascinated with him. He carried so much depth and emotion that I had to know his story, and now we finally have it! At least the first part of it. Motion is a fantastic beginning to Mona and Abram’s slow (slooow) burn romance and I’m unashamedly greedy for more of them already. If you’re in the mood for something different, with unique, weird, unforgettable characters, you need to read this book (and basically all of Penny’s books).

Mona is not your average girl. She’s wicked smart and at nineteen, has already started her PhD program. But for being such a smart girl, she can’t rope her way out of the big mess her estranged, identical twin sister throws her into. Lisa is in jail but she needs Mona to pretend to be her until she gets out so that their parents don’t find out and cut her off. And not only that, Mona needs to convince Abram, their brother’s best friend, that she is her wild sister, someone who is Mona’s complete opposite. Things become even more complicated when Mona realizes she way, wayyy attracted to Abram.

Did he move? Or were we always standing this close? And why wasn’t I cringing away? Goodness, his face would be nice to sit on.
AAHHHH!

Mona as Lisa and Abram are stuck in a house together for a week, and this forced proximity allows these two to get to know one another on a deeper level. Even when Mona tries her hardest to be Lisa, little Mona-isms still manage to reach the surface, which is what Abram falls for. And once Mona knows there’s more than meets the eye with this supposed slacker, she starts to develop feelings for him too. The blazing chemistry that’s always between them certainly doesn’t hurt. But with Mona lying about who she is, can anything real last between them when the truth comes out?

“You have to tell me what you want,” he whispered gruffly. “If you don’t want me, tell me. But you have to know, you must know, I only want to make you happy.”

I love Penny Reid’s kind of humor, which is intelligent yet awkward. This is the very definition of Mona, in fact. At first, she comes across as very standoff-ish and doesn’t seem to connect with anyone. But as we get to know her, her love for Moby Dick, and her ridiculous yet hilarious phrases, her quirks become endearing and you just want to give this girl a hug. Abram himself is just SWOON. How can you not love a guy who reads and loves romance, and Lisa Kleypas books at that?

As you may know, Motion ends of a cliffhanger. As brutal as it is, it is the kind of cliffhanger that you expect, and it’s juicy enough that you want the next book ASAP. Luckily, we don’t need to wait too long for Space, as it’s only a month away. I can’t wait to dive deeper into these characters with the next installment – March needs to get here sooner!
