The Ottawa performance of my Third Piano Concerto was, if I say so myself, something of a triumph. In spite of the distractions, or perhaps because of them, I played the work better than I'd ever done before. Not perfectly, mind you, but excellently nonetheless. Marion's conducting was similarly fine. I was reminded of just how good he could be when he cared. He conducted with so much sensitivity that it seemed we were playing a duet, he and I. Just the way it should be but so seldom is.
