This book surveys Picasso's work from from the early student paintings, done in Barcelona and Paris at the turn of the century, through his varied styles and periods: Blue, Rose, and the first classic periods, Cubism, neoclassicism, metamorphism, and Surrealism. It also gives an account of Picasso's courageous activities during the Nazi occupation in Paris and his controversial position after the war.
