I rarely DNF books, but I only made to the 50% mark on this one before I gave up and put it down. The concept of reincarnation was interesting, but unfortunately not well executed. Connecting with the characters was difficult- neither of the protagonists were fleshed out and had much depth. There's also little explanation as to why Daniel is so drawn to Sophia other than that she's physically attractive. He's ready to spend centuries of miserable lifetime after miserable lifetime pining for a girl for no other reason than she's beautiful. Pretty shallow in my opinion and wasn't worth continuing.

The author clearly had in mind to write a second book but seeing as this one didn´t get very successful that book will never be written and the ending remains open.

It was definitely an awesome concept. Reincarnation and a very few select people remember all their past lives. And one man who remembers all of them and the girl he loved in all of them. However they are always seperated and she never remembers. But somehow he can remind her. You read the whole book about this couple but they only spend about one actual chapter together, and it isn't even the last chapter. Even though it has a semi happy ending its not the one you want.

           I would have given this five stars had it not been for the ending. Let me talk about the positives of this book first. It starts out really, really well; just a few pages in and I was hooked! Reading until 12 in the morning even though I had work the next day. The way Brashares comes up with these theories about lives and past lives, it all seems to make sense! I found myself being able to believe certain things she expressed about souls through Daniel's words, and Ben's of course. It was a little unfortunate that we didn't get a lot of Daniel and Lucy interaction time, but all the stories in between just made waiting for it so much better. It all started getting a bit silly at the end what with Daniel's long lost evil brother trying to kill them, and them swimming out at sea for hours in the middle of no where. I just think she could have wrote that better. The very end was such a cliff hanger!! I wanted to know more, to see their happy ending! What am I supposed to assume?? I imagine that Daniel got killed by his brother and Lucy died in childbirth and then perhaps the child is raised by monks who teach him the ways of past lives and the child discovers the history behind his parents and goes on a mission to reunite them? I dunno...I guess I was looking for an ending like that...

I would've given this book more stars but it was VERY similar to Fallen by Lauren Kate. I sort of liked it but it just seemed to drag on with all the recapping on Daniel's past lives, that's all good and dandy but most of the book was in the past not the present , so it took a while for things to actually happen.

The entire book I was transfixed and loved it and couldn't wait to see how it would end. Worst ending ever!!! It was like the author died and someone else wrote the last few chapters really quickly to just finish the book.
