My Perfect Mistake is one of those books I saw floating around for quite awhile before I actually decided to read it. It was getting some great reviews from bloggers whose opinions I trust – and tend to agree with when it comes to most books – but I just didn't make time to read it. Boy, I wish I hadn't waited quite so long. It was fresh, funny and sexy as hell. I love discovering new-to-me authors!

I was sucked into My Perfect Mistake from the very first page. No lie. I liked Shay's spunky, sassy attitude. She was getting over a long relationship (to a douche) but she didn't let it get her down. Instead, she took the opportunity to find herself again... with the help of her friends and a trip to Aspen. To say she and Kolton didn't exactly hit it off when the first met is a HUGE understatement. They pretty much loathed each other, yet there was a lingering attraction neither could deny. (Have I mentioned I love a good antagonistic romance?) As much as I liked Shay and connected with her, I felt the same about Kolton. I do love my grumpy heroes. (And the single dad storyline?! Melted. All over the place.) I loved the passion and the intensity these two had when they were in the same room. They just clicked. Their banter was awesome. I found them super easy to root for, despite the challenges anything between them would bring. 

Characters make or break a book (and series) for me. It's been awhile since I connected with an entire group of characters as quickly and as hard as I did with the ones in My Perfect Mistake. I already said how much I loved Shay and Kolton, but they're just the beginning. Kolton's son, Jackson, was adorable. I loved him and the interactions with him and Kolton and Shay. One of my favorite things about a standalone series like this is the opportunity to get to know the characters who will star in later books in advance of their story being told. I enjoy how it allows me to connect with them. This definitely happened with Lily and Sawyer and Raven and Nico. I enjoy this group of friends so very much. They each bring something unique and special to this series. I enjoy the friendships nearly as much as the romance.

Did someone say total package? Because that's exactly what this book was for me. Anytime you can give me friendship, romance and sexy times with a dose of feels, you can consider me sold. Even better when it comes from a new-to-me author, someone who I can eagerly follow going forward (and whose backlist I can devour). 

The one good thing about waiting so long to read the first book is that I could jump right into the second, A Fine Mess. Sure, it follows a different couple (Lily and Sawyer, FTW!!) but it's the same world – one that I'm borderline obsessed with. I love Kelly's writing. I adore her characters and the romances and friendships. The wait for the third book is going to suck, but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth it. After reading about Nico and Raven for two books now, I'm already shipping the hell out of them. But, I digress. If you love romance and you're looking for a fresh voice, you should check out this book. (And the following ones, of course.)
