Chapters 26-30 

This has to be my favorite volume of this series so far. 

Shiva has always been the sweet, cheerful and brave child but we got to see her grieving for her Auntie, the thing that she tried not to do in the last volume. Now we can see that she's really just a small and vulnerable little girl. But despite that, she still tried to be alright in front of her Teacher as soon as possible so as to not worry him, but that only made Teacher more concerned for her. 

A lot of exposition was shown to the readers about Teacher's origin this time. We got to know that Teacher used to have a family, a wife and a child, but according to him, he doesn't remember them well by now. The only thing that proved their existence is a single locket. Just like Shiva, this is the first time we discovered his backstory. Shiva, a sweet girl that she usually is, tried to cheer him up after seeing how solemn he got. 

One of the Outsiders visited them in their new home and dropped a lot of suprising things for us. We discovered that there are two kinds of Outsider, according to it. One in the 'Mother's Child', those Outsiders wandering outside the walls and was birthed by the 'Mother', and those 'Strange Black Child', those people once considered as Insiders that were infected by the 'curse' from the 'Mother's Child' and transformed as an Outsider. That visitor emphasized how strange Teacher is, like he's not like any other 'Strange Black Child'. He should be turned as a tree by now, just like Auntie, but he's still alive until now. It was like hinting that Teacher's real origin isn't just as simple as being turned from Insider to Outsider, but as one of the 'Mother's Child'.

On the other hand, those soldiers hunting them came to their old house and saw the Teacher's diary. They suddenly mentioned about the 'Great Purge' happened years ago, and remembered about this one doctor because of the diary, named Albert. It was like leading us to believe that this Albert was actually the Teacher. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. But the parallel between these soldiers and the Outsider explaining each of their thoughts are just misleading us to be believe in their own information. Teacher also has his side of explanation, saying that he may not remember his life before 'turning', but he remember the Outsider who infected him with the curse, and saying that it looked just like his appearance now. Having three different possibilities, instead of becoming more clear about Teacher's origin, we got more mysteries behind it. 

Aside from a lot of details revealed this volume, we also had another wholesome moments from Shiva and Teacher. I just love to see them in their own world, only caring about their sweet and peaceful life together. They even talked about the emotions and feelings Teacher has now forgotten, but they still tried to understand each other in their own ways despite the differences. 

Lastly, that last part of the volume made my heart beat so fast because of anxiousness. The soldiers hunting them, found them. I want to pick the next volume up as soon as possible, but I'm so afraid to learn what will happen. I just want to say that, please be safe, Shiva and Teacher.

Chapters 50-53 

This series is a really heartfelt and wholesome read. The story has a decent amount of twists and turn, especially at the last parts. The best part of this, and actually what I loved the most, is definitely the relationship between Teacher and Shiva. They are both so precious and they deserve to have a happy and peaceful life together. They experienced so much despair and they're each other's anchor. Their sincere care for each other is just seriously melting my heart. I love that even though the ending part is not as straighforward as I thought it would and maybe a bit vague, it still has an underlying meaning of a new and happy life ahead of them. Though it has some loose ends in the other part of the story, like what happened to the people inside the wall, the King and the priest, I honestly only care about what happened to Teacher and Shiva so I don't plan to make it a big deal. 

I highly recommend this to everyone. Just beware that the artwork is kind of unique and maybe a bit visually dark for a lot of us.
