Todd Anderson and his friends at Welton Academy can hardly believe how different life is since their new English professor, the flamboyant John Keating, has challenged them to "make your lives extraordinary! Inspired by Keating, the boys resurrect the Dead Poets Society--a secret club where, free from the constraints and expectations of school and parents, they let their passions run wild. As Keating turns the boys on to the great words of Byron, Shelley, and Keats, they discover not only the beauty of language, but the importance of making each moment count. How do we strip ourselves of prejudices, habits, influences? The answer, my dear lads, is that we must constant endeavor to find a new point of view."(..)we must constantly force ourselves to look at thing differently. (..)"If you' re sure about something , force yourself to think about it another way, even if you know it’s wrong or silly. When you read, don't consider only what the author thinks, but take time to consider what you think.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life! To put to rout all that was not life And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all.

granted it’s been a while since i’ve watched the movie, (and going into this i didn’t realise this was written after the movie), but i really wish this had stood out on its own in some way. there were obviously some really good parts, and probably the most memorable scenes of the movie, but the general atmosphere and charm was sort of missing. still, a nice read & it did make me want to rewatch the movie

Definitely forever a favourite, filled my heart with joy. Devoured it in a couple hours.

An  inspiring story to follow your dreams and to have a mind of your own. For me it lacks something, i don’t know but I really wanted the characters to fight back a little bit more, or at least a snap of Neil to his father, something that made me think -omg they really are doing everything in their power to live as they want and deserve-. Overly is a light and nice read.

The main characters in the book are very ambiguous to me. I experienced the whole spectrum of emotions, from cringing at some scenes to feeling compassion. I watched the movie first, and it left a strong impression on me. Unfortunately, the book had the opposite effect. 

Mr. Kitting is not a hero but a narcissistic, self-admiring guy seeking attention from young, susceptible teenagers through his eccentric behavior. I believe he chose the wrong place and time, leading to many unfortunate outcomes as students took his words too literally, and the teacher was too obsessed with their worshipping to give it up.

Robin Williams made his character in the movie much more inspiring, charismatic, deep, and appealing compared to what I just read. It's the first time I can say that the movie is better than the book.

P.s: writing a book based on the film is a bad idea

honestly the only reason i gave this anything less than a 5 is because the proses dont add any other description that we got from the movie

all i know is that this should’ve stayed in the drafts.

since i am aware that this book was released later after the movie, at least i knew how the story goes because if i had read this before the movie, i would be simply bored to death. i felt like there is something missing in the narration and there is also no in-depth description of the characters’ personalities that sometimes it felt like there are no connection between them. 

as much as i detest drawing comparisons between the book and the film, this falls short on the tone, the feel, and the magic from the movie. if you are still curious on what this is all about, i simply recommend to just watch the movie instead and skip the book (or watch the movie first then read the book if you still insist).

okay I LOVED THIS BOOK i loved the secret society, the banter, the friendship EVERYTHING FLOWED GORGEOUSLY and the poetry was just so beautiful.  but there are some things that I hated reading like the SA of one character and then they end up together?? kinda disturbing. The bit about cultural appropriation was also weird to read about in the current state of wokeness just reading that made feel iffy. Overall, such a good fast paced read (that took me longer than i would like to admit).

I just discovered that the book was based on the movie (written after the movie was made). I loved the movie very much, It demonstrated to us how to challenge life and so much more. I felt like a lot of the subtext that was in the movie was absolutely ripped out of this book. The literary spark was so dim it felt so difficult to read and finish the book.

I watched the film and now I wanted to  desperately read the book. It is just as beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. 

But it is infuriating how Neil’s father has turned the whole calamity around so that he is not the devil but Mr. Keating is… and how Cameron is just playing along like the traitor he is.

NEIL NO it was really good but the ending was a little incomplete which was weird but it kind of added to the story in some weird way

I love dps movie I think I rewatched it 5 times in the last 2 years (and I don't plan on stopping). The movie literally changed my whole life and way of how I view myself as an individual and my ability to be someone. So when I saw there's a book I bought it right away and read it when it came in mail. I will go on a rant here just for the heads up.

So as I said I love this movie and when I watched it I became deeply invested in it. I went to watch deleted scene, things you missed, meaning behind each scene and so on and so forth. I found out that few scenes they cut out of the movie still happened in the book and those scenes did not disappoint me. Instead, I was disappointed the cut them out because I think alot of these scenes were important for the whole message of the movie. "What do you think of my dad?" scene for example or when they ate meatballs with other hand. Which should have captured how open minded they became and how school viewed that as being 'rebel' and not following the rules. Another scene that I hate wasn't in the movie was when Knox and Chris met. Scene in the book where they met and get to talk and became friends was so important in the movie so we, watchers, could see how their relationship builds up. Now everytime I watch movie with someone I need to tell them they deleted the scene where they have decent conversation.

I did cry while reading the book because it's dead poet society, it's a sad story. I'm glad I bought the book, beacuse it really did make me happy and I did enjoy reading it. However, the thing is I don't think I will read the book again. Yes, like I said there's deleted scenes in the book which I find important, but to me it's just something I would read once.
