a dark and fucked up read. while the whole premise was initially eye-rolling level of ridiculousness and unbelievable, as the story progressed i got hooked and wanted to find out more about how this ancient tradition between the two families originated.

i liked that the heroine wasn't a doormat or at least she tried not to be (taking into account the harsh circumstance she was put in) and i ended up liking the dynamic between her and the hero, even though i have my reservations towards the latter because ya know, he's kind of horrible but i don't know with these books one has to leave societal morals and values aside and go into these stories with a blind eye. 

the last part of the book was the strongest in my opinion and the ending really surprised me to the point where i'm gonna immediately pick up the sequel. also, the scene in the pool with sebastian's brother, the one in venice where the H's finally soft and tender with helena and the one after the train scene?? yeah they really got me feeling some type of way.

Wow! This book was dark and totally up my alley. I didn't know what to expect when I first dove in - Knight is one of the authors I just read everything they write and don't really check the blurbs. I loved the premise of the book. It had a classical originality to it, in the sense that it was a completely new approach to something familiar. 

The book was dark, twisted and totally delicious. The heroine is strong and self-affirmed. She will make you smile but also shake your head at her audacity and that is what makes this book fun to read. Maybe I'm a little wack when I say "fun", because well, this book is angsty, it's nerve-racking, suspenseful, and definitely not flowers and rainbows. 

Anyways, in true Knight fashion, this book nailed it in originality, evoking emotions, and connecting with complex and multi-faceted characters. I cannot wait to see what the sequel has in store.
