loved this collection of stories, particularly the first and last. sayaka murata’s afterword was the cherry on top!

I loved this. I really enjoyed Natsuko Imamura's "The Woman in the Purple Skirt", but this collection of short stories is more openly weird and very surreal, and often truly chilling, none more so than the second story, "Nami, Who Wanted to Get Hit (and Eventually Succeeded)", which I found particularly disturbing.

Sayaka Murata's Afterword puts it nicely: "the border between reality and illusion is blurred without any sense of incongruity, and the stories seem all the more true to life for this". Incidentally, if you like Sayaka Murata's work, then I think you'll enjoy this too.
