Brighter than Scale, Swifter than Flame

It was an okay-ish book. There's no wow factor in the plot and genuinely there are so many thing not covered in this book, I think the form of Novella not really suit this, it just felt insufficient. 

Like, I didn't find their development is showed, not at best. There's no sacred or significant moment between them got presented in details but then suddenly they're lover?

The resolution part really come short, I haven't even finished build an anticipation but suddenly Emory already relented just like that, without resistance, literally got thrown an idea and he's 'okay, done.' It's rather underwhelming.

The concept of the dragon and the knight—the dragon slayer—was an absolute delectable, too bad it wasn't developed well. 

On the good side, I personally love the writing style in this book, it was neat and quite beauty but still easy to comprehend, also really love the depiction of bodily experience and, which I believe, some allegory in this book as well.

great concept, disappointing execution. I love love the idea of this novella, but I think it would have been better executed as a novel; it felt rushed and sometimes confusing timeline wise. for example, our main character is sent to train as a dragon hunter at 13, and then it just says many years later and then the plot begins, but like, how many years later? how old is our protag? how old is the love interest, who’s really only frame of reference that I remember in terms of age is that she is called the girl-king, so she must be still young. how long was our protag there in the city before the incident at the end? their love story felt rushed because there was no emotional build up to it. there are quite a few other instances besides timeline problems where I thought this novella would have benefited from a little more workshopping to flesh it out into a full novel. I think making it longer would be the only way to do the storyline justice. that said, I enjoyed the characters and the worldbuilding, and I think the writing itself was very strong. I would read more from this author for sure!

It was a great concept, but this definitely did not work as a novella in my opinion. It would have been better fleshed out as a full novel. 

There’s a lot of telling instead of showing, and the pacing and character development suffers for it.
