I wish I read this when I was in anatomy class during the brain section. It is a nice, simple overview of how the brain works with some history. A good intro to the brain.

I had high expectations for this book, but in a way I must confess that I was a bit deceived. I believe the book achieves the necessary level when it comes to bring neuroscience to the masses, making it accessible and conceptually functional, but it could have done much more, in terms of storytelling and art.

The story is not that good, and is saved by the cameos of a big lot of pioneers on neuroscience. Nothing new if you do research in the area, however the authors have managed to make a crescendo and create a climax by the end, questioning the reader, using so well Scott Mcloud comic’s theory and putting us to think about who we are inside our skull.

The art is also fine, looking and feeling the hardcover I would wait for a better treatment, not that is completely bad, but I really believe it deserved a more much more detailed approach, creating worlds comparable to the complexity of the ones our imagination can create.

In the end "Neurocomic" is an experiment, using comic medium for learning, which paradoxically will be interesting for people that already know most of what is being discussed inside, but probably will not be able to attract others.
