New James S. A. Corey Novella #1
Reviews

Novella about a character from the Expanse series stranded on a planet (now that the ring gate is closed), who appears to have learned from his past, but now must forge his own future. (Can’t tell you who without spoiling it.)

Filip, formerly Inaros, now Nagata, was trapped on a planet, along with some others, when the ring gates went dark. There's no re-supply. There is a finite number of spare parts available, and without the reagents and resources, there's no way to make more. There are monsters on this world too. Some of them are even native denizens of the planet. Others are human. This is Filip as a mature man, haunted by his memories of working with his father. It's a rather grim, elegiac sort of story. It's vivid and sad, and a bit of a downer to end the writing of the Expanse series.
