The book started off slow and it was almost a DNF for me but I'm glad I was encouraged by all the positive reviews to keep going. I really enjoyed the author's writing style and how detailed she is in creating the setting and vibe of the story.

Her mother is more of a Facebook acquaintance; the boyfriend she moved to New Orleans for dumped her four days later; and her father has a major gambling addiction which led to the loss of her entire life's saving, and which caused a violent loan shark to set his sights on her for payment. If that wasn't enough, after one drunken night vandalizing the car of someone who was most definitely not her ex-boyfriend and without the means to pay for damages, Bea is now the new magician's assistant to Huxley Marlow of the Marvelous Marlow Boys. Determined to keep her positive outlook, Bea finds she rather enjoys her time spent with Huxley, even if she's getting stuffed into a box or lit on fire for most of it. When he starts unlocking all her creativity which had been laying stagnant, she'll do anything to keep him as her muse. But Bea soon learns of his own betting habits, and she'll need to decide if letting him into her heart is a gamble she's willing to take.

I was looking for a quick rom-com to read, and while this did deliver on that front, I didn't love it as much as I was hoping. There were aspects I enjoyed, like Bea's optimism and quirkiness and the relationship between Huxley and his brothers, but I just thought the mob business and blackmailing was just way too ridiculous. The whole way it ended up playing out seemed too far-fetched and I sort of just couldn't get passed it. That aside, Bea and Huxley's relationship was cute, so if you can forgive a bit of soap opera level crime nonsense, it's worth a shot.

I’ve had my eye on New Orleans Rush from the very moment Kelly first shared the cover. And honestly, maybe even before, just based on the blurb alone. For one thing, I love Kelly’s books and for another, I’m a sucker for a good New Orleans setting. Plus, I think I can honestly say I’ve never read a book with a magician hero until now. I’m all for new and different in my romance and Kelly gave me both with this book.

I’ll be the first to admit it did take me a little bit of time to connect with Huxley and Beatrice, but once I did I was all in. What great characters! Surly heroes are some of my favorite varieties and I adored Huxley. Beatrice was fabulous in her own right, too. And together? Their chemistry was magical. (See what I did there?) From the setting to the romance and everything in between — and especially the family relationships — I was on board with New Orleans Rush. It was a swoony, fun and sexy story about letting go of the past and moving forward.

I really hope this isn’t the last we see of these characters. The Marvelous Marlow Boys are just begging for a series of their own. Or maybe I’m the one begging for stories about the other brothers. Don’t leave me hanging! I need more Fox and Axel. Yes, I’m a greedy reader.

This book is art!! I really liked how it was written. The setting in New Orleans was great. The romance was sweet and swoony and did all kinds of things to my heart. I loved it much more than I expected. I hope to read about Della and Fox in next book. <3
