           Okay, good morning, good afternoon or good night beautiful people. This is my second finished book for the month!! I am very glad that I'm making great progress on my new reading journey and I'm extremely proud of myself for coming this far. 

MY ACTUAL REVIEW 

Promise Boys is mystery YA book that pins three boys of color (J.B. Williamson, Trey Jackson and Ramón Zambrano) as murderers of their school's principal, Mr. Kenneth Moore. The fact that the ONLY three suspects were black and brown still shows how people will always see people of color as criminals before ACTUAL PEOPLE!!

The title of the book ties into the story as all the boys go to Urban Promise Prep Academy , an all boy school in Washington, DC. The opening responses by people such as Nurse Robin and Keyana really set the tone for the book. Although seen as proper and put together, Principal Moore was cursing at students, drilling fear like nails into their skin las if they were houses that need to be fixed, but NO!

The Promise Boys didn't need fixing or someone to mend them. They needed guidance and a place to feel safe, to make mistakes and goof off every now and then. Nevertheless finding out that Moore was stealing from the school, finished killed any respect I still had for him. 

But anyways back to the boys...

All of the boys were painted as suspects because they all had an altercation with their principal the day he was murdered. J.B. got into a fight with him because he took his phone, Ramón cursed Moore for taking his bag of pupusas and Moore gave Trey detention after he made jokes about him. 

Although I wasn't as compelled and hooked to the book as I was with my last one, I enjoyed the book nonetheless. Nick Brooks is an amazing author and to end the book with Mrs. Hall taking over and with the line " We Promise" was so beautiful and chilling at the same time. I'm glad that Dean Hicks was caught because those boys deserved better. 

Also, I just wanted to say that I loved the way he described J.B. and Keyana's relationship because it had me swooning and giggling like nobody's business. 

To anyone still reading this, remember that school is what you make of it. Don't stay silent knowing you can make a difference. We aren't robots who just get dressed, go to school, do homework and then the cycle repeats. We are humans with feelings and emotions and truth is, we won't be in school forever, but what I can tell you is that, you have the power to change your story, just like Trey, Ramón and J.B. did. Sure you may not be facing murder charges or you may(who knows), but just know that it's not over when you fall, it's over when you give.

4,25 stars - I liked the multiple pov's and that they were not only the mc's pov's. Plot was good, but the revelation was kind of expected. Overall, a fun read
