Sad book. I don't feel like I learned anything or gained anything from reading it. But it was an easy casual read.

Lemme just tell you this right now: if you're a fan of homosexual relationships, this is the hottest thing you'll ever read. (yes I'm a fan and no, I have no shame) haha. I'd definitely recommend this because it's such a great love story along with the hot guy on guy kissing stuff. (again, no shame) :) YOU'RE GONNA READ IT NOW. I just know it.

This is my second time attempting to read The Vast Fields of Ordinary by Nick Burd, but only my first time finishing it, so I’m counting this as a “new book”. It was a very good novel. I found myself laughing out loud sometimes, which got awkward in class, and Dade was a very cute main character, but not entirely likable. He got drunk far too many times in my opinion. I loved his and Alex’s and Pablo’s relationship (not Pablo himself; Pablo, in Dade’s words, was a dick). 

What I didn’t like much about The Vast Fields of Ordinary was that the girl, Jenny Moore’s subplot didn’t seem to add to the story and could have done without, and that the conclusion seemed a little foregone. It was also kind of strange that the Hamiltons had a pool in their backyard, but hey, I guess people do have pools in their backyard. All in all, quite an enjoyable book.

There were some bits I loved, and some bits I absolutely hated, hence the three-stars. It's too hard to forget the bad bits to rate it on the good bits only. And the missing girl thing? Super creepy and weird, and I have absolutely NO idea what its relevance was to the story. We could get all analytical and say that her summer of wandering was Dade accepting that he was leaving for college, but jeez, even that's far fetched. His nightmare with the person on the stairs, too? Freaked me out. It's a shame 'cause there were some really awesome bits and characters, but the weird bits were just too overpowering to ignore. Sigh.
