Hornby opens his second collection of Believer columns with an impassioned plea that I happen to agree with 100%: If you don't like the book you're reading, put it down! There is no rule that says you are required to finish every book you begin. You only have a lifetime to read books; why waste time reading the books you don't like when there are so many books out there that you'll love? Of course, you only find out about the ones you love by trying lot of books, but please please, remember that every book has it's reader--that reader might not be you. Move on, and find the book that you're really meant to be with.
