I read half of this book on a sitting, completely fascinated with this story, where it would take me and Nick Hornby's writing. But then I got stuck and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. It wasn't because I wasn't enjoying it, much on the contrary. It just happened to catch me in between a slight reading slump that I only managed to get over today.
I really liked this book though. The characters were simple yet complex, going through the most mundane faith crisis with which I think any of us can relate. How can be we be better people? Or how do we notice we're not as good as we take ourselves? It was quite a thought-provoking reading, mixed with Hornby's characteristic sense of humor. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
(Note to me: this book was used as a prop on one of the greatest plays I've ever seen.)
