This book definitely had me on the edge of my seat several times and kept me turning the page. However it all just felt a little too on the nose

The only character that makes sense in this book was oscar, the dog. all of the characters were utterly insufferable. This entire book could have been avoided if joanne hadn't been so stupid.

The dog is the only good character. If this book wasn’t for a book club I would have DNF. I found the writing to be amateurish, with repetitive use of gaslighting and predictable dialogue. There was so much potential for this to be so good and it just fell flat for me.

For those of you who are on the fence I recommend you read a few reviews first. It seems this book is either hit or miss. For me it was a hit! I understood that the point was to get the reader to absolutely hate Chloe. Mission accomplished. There’s mixed reviews of Joanne also but even if she wasn’t catching on to everything some individuals were throwing I respect that she fought hard to keep her baby close to her at all times. 

Richard (father) is an older man with a dark history. His previous wife and youngest daughter died and he never mentions any of it to his new and much younger wife (Joanne). When his oldest daughter, Chloe shows up at their door shortly after the arrival of the newest baby things start taking a turn and Richard is forced to discuss what happened to his previous wife and daughter. The causes of death of his family are being seen in a different light that leads you to wonder if Richard and/or Chloe were behind it all. Who can Joanne trust when they both seem to be such perfect liars?

I listened to this book narrated by Penelope Rawlins, who did the voices amazingly! She did such a good job of making Chole sound so annoying when she was around Daddy OMG ><. I listened to it in one sitting and finished at 2 a.m.! :3 

I found Joanna to be a bit stupid, like a lot of things that happened. I would have told Richard, but she was hesitant about everything. Every chapter, I kept having thoughts about all the characters and relationships. 

I am still left with questions!! I want to reread this in the future, AHH!

Reading psychological books is not my usual literary activity, but I was eager to read this one and it exceeded my expectations.
I couldn’t put it down, I was hooked from start to finish, devouring it in one sitting.

My only problem was the characters : Joanne’s obvious lack of wisdom, Nicole’s unlikeable nature, even in her Redemption ARC, and Richard’s weirdness; all threw me off.

The psychological aspects of the thriller were perfectly executed. The gaslighting that Joanne’s endured was resonating to me, it invade my thoughts, questioning reality too. 
The palpable angst left me uncomfortable at times, showing the author’s ability to create an immersive psychological experience.

THE scene in particular left a mark in my spirit, it was not only beautifully good and written but also profoundly intense.
The author’s exploration of psychological experiences elevated a lot my reading experience.

I thought this was pretty boring and generally uneventful for a thriller, and I don’t think there was any type of satisfying ending and to me there was barely a plot twist at all. Also this book solely depends on gaslighting the main character which I feel is just not great storytelling and kind of sexist given context.

Addicting! It’s impossible to put this book down. The first person monologue makes you feel like you are going crazy along with the main character. So many twists and turns. An absolute must read!

4.5⭐️ Now THAT was good. I’m def in my thriller era and I ate this up so quick I COULD NOT put it down. That ending was HAUNTING. Such a fun ride. Def giving Verity vibes, so if you loved Verity, you’ll probably love this! I feel It’s the kind of book where you kinda need to go in blind. In any case, this was deliciously clever and twisty. Go read this!

Page turning suspense. Lots of turns in the plot line and keeps you engaged

A fast read and a good book to get you out of a reading slump. Though it is a little predicated it'll still have you turning the pages and having a hard time putting it down. You really don't know who to trust in this one and you'll be second guessing yourself a lot.
