I would give this a one star rating but I can't ignore some of the emotions this book brought up in me.

First off, having something like the acquaintances of a (view spoiler)[guy you kissed once burn your dog to death, douse you in gasoline, and light you on fire (hide spoiler)] within the first four chapters of the book should be enough to derail that love train. In fact, I almost put the book down at this part because I was so not prepared or excited for a fanfiction type novel.

I don't mind insta-love. In fact, when it's executed well, I find it very interesting. However, for Jude - with his reputation - to buy a random girl a dog house for her pet within 24 hours of knowing her after telling her to "stay away, I'm a cancer", is just a huge no-no. Literally, not 12 hours before, they met on the beach and had a snarky conversation. It must be love. Regardless of how Lucy was feeling, guys don't change that fast. Ever.

Another thing that really got on my nerves is how many times Jude told her to leave him, and then wouldn't let her. Was he not the one who followed her to the dance studio and beg her forgiveness after she was angry at him for ditching her at homecoming? And not 5 minutes later he made her promise that if he ever messes up again, she'll leave him (because he's incapable of it).

I get making a character complex. He was meant to be conflicted, pained, tortured, a secretly sensitive and good-hearted guy. But that doesn't mean that he's flip flopping all over the place. He isn't the only one who gets to make decisions in a relationship, yet his seemed to be the only ones that mattered. Williams tried to make Lucy seem badass and tough by, what, having her flip the bird to the boys who would then light her on fire and talking back to the queen bee once? This relationship was just unhealthy and unrealistic.

All this aside, there were a few things plot wise that seriously had me questioning how this book got published. First, we have this Sawyer character who apparently can read minds because he just knew that bringing up Holly (minor character, unimportant but the cause of a break-up) would lead Lucy to not ask Jude about her, ask causing her to jump to conclusions and accusations that would be her relationship's downfall. I don't even know why he would take that risk when (view spoiler)[ he happened to be the father of Holly's child, not Jude, not to mention that he fathered the child because he raped her. (hide spoiler)] There is no way in Hell that anyone would bring up something like that in hopes of a good turnout, aka, Lucy falling sad and broken into his arms.

And don't get me started on Jude's role in all of this. In the beginning, it's all terrible and whatnot, Lucy being an idiot and jumping to conclusions that Jude decided he shouldn't clear up. Then, we find out:

"I also knew that if you assumed I was Jude's dad, and that I'd lied to you about that, it would be enough for you to be done with me for good. It was the only way I knew to keep you safe from me."

I lifted me hand off his stomach. "So you planned this? The whole time we were together, you were scheming some way to screw up royally so I'd leave you alone?"

There are so many things wrong with this. First, that the same Jude that had begged Lucy for a second chance is the one scheming up a way for her to end it. Second, that Williams would think for one second that readers would believe Jude had actually planned this up, that he had anticipated something like this happening and just going with it. That's not what love is, finding some way to break things off to keep your significant other safe from yourself. To quote one of my favourite books, Delirium by Lauren Oliver, you're supposed to love "into hate, into refusal, against hope and without fear".

I could go on forever about all the things wrong with this book, but I'll end it here. A 2 star rating because, despite my better judgement, my heart still did a few flip-flops when reading the book, and any story that can do that gets an extra gold star.

Ahora les traigo mi extraña aventura con Crash o como le han puesto en español "El lado explosivo de Jude" ¿No les gusta una buena traducción? Mis clases de inglés se fueron al diablo, en serio. Sumándole a ese desliz una portada en español digna de novela erótica. Luego no se quejen cuando los padres no quieran comprarles libros a sus hijos. No se debe, pero siempre se juzga un libro por su portada.

Con el libro empecé mal, me gusta mucho cuando se respeta el título y portada original, y si los cambian espero que sea para mejor. Soy bastante quisquillosa con esas cosas, además Jude, el protagonista, no viste de negro. NUNCA, y para los que leyeron el libro original sabrán que es por una muy buena razón. Miren, toda la versión en español visualmente es tan “50 sombras”, se supone que es juvenil, de 14 años para arriba, muchas madres no van a querer comprárselo a sus hijas… Bueno, ya paro, esa soy yo haciendo bilis por culpa de la editorial. Basta.

El principio es sumamente forzado. Los cuatro primeros capítulos no logré sentir nada de ellos de manera natural, no tienen gracia juntos, no hay ese encanto de chico malo que se supone gusta. La escritora apuró tanto a que Lucy y Jude se juntaran que olvidó el factor “enamora a tus lectores, también”. Es un insta—love a niveles épicos, la velocidad de la luz es lenta en comparación. Dos o tres párrafos más coqueteando con Jude nos hubieran caído bien, me gustan los chicos malos así que me fue un poco raro que no conectará rápido con él. Mi paz interior se lo agradecería a Nicole.

Lo que sí es resaltante en los primeros capítulos (qué en mi opinión son los más importantes) son los padres de Lucy. Un papá roto y abstraído (me recuerda mis días más oscuros, aún quedan rastros) y una madre furiosa con el mundo (mis días más actuales), con la vida y consigo misma.

Les doy una recomendación: tomen el libro como...

I saw some really good reviews for this one and I dived into it having really high expectations.. AND.. *wait for it* I LOVED IT!!! If you like lovey-dovey stories, definitely pick this one up.

The Long Review Version:

From the first page, I fell in love with Lucy and Jude. Luce was just on a beach, trying catch Jude's attention because.. well.. Jude's one hot dude, what other reasons do you need? Basically they got off really well and started arguing. Luce basically didn't like his personality but then later grew to love him.

I really love this one! I think Luce and Jude's rollercoaster-ish up and downs kept me really entertained and from this, I learned quite a bit. I think communication is the key in any relationship.

I loved both characters. I felt like I actually knew them personally and that I was actually in that situation with them together. Love the writing style, also. Williams just has a way of pulling me into the story. I stayed up late reading this! (But eventually, I slept :P)

This is a very believable story that will have anyone cheering/rooting/shipping Jude and Luce :)
